I just love the friendship and how these incredible surfers, including the best surfer in the world and of his generation, bar none, JJF, are talking about it like it was just another day at the office. The stamina of these phenomenal athletes cannot be understood till one gets on a surfboard and paddle out just 1/100 of what they were doing...Wow!
You can train all you want on land, but that type of training right there is priceless! I wouldn't have made it more than 10 feet from the beach.😵💫 Massive respect!
People who don't surf have no idea what it takes to get to the waves, keep showing the hazards of surfing for the land locked fans. Nathan's recent paddle out videos are insane, you can see dry reef slabs right in front of the take off zone.

Dude just took a 15fter on the dome and got right under it no problem, anyone else would’ve been blown off their board and sent scrambling. Only other person that seems to have THAT level of comfort in super heavy water is Kelly- and I ain’t trying to jock ride either of them, but that’s just the truth. Anyone that surfs knows the amount of stamina that must’ve taken to get out to the lineup on this day. If I somehow found myself out in that madness I would’ve been shitting my spring-suit and praying to Christ that my leash doesn’t snap and that Strider magically appears on a jetski to whisk me back to the sand 😂. JJF out there literally by himself and having a time like it’s 3-5ft Lowers. 😭

I’m always just amazed at the Florence bros. They make paddle out sessions that’ll drown decent swimmers look like a breeze. Then such naturals at the ride. Hawaii always trips me out how fast the waves come up on you

I actually was one of the 3 lucky ppl that was chilling in the sand right in front on john john on that day. The funny thing is, when they walked by us, my buddie said, look, its JJ, and he said, of it's a bummer there's more ppl with him, we won't be able to tell who's him on the water (as they were walking by further down the beach to paddle out from the channel. I was like bro, trust me, if there is one thing you will notice on the water , paddle out and duck diving is who JJ is from those guys... Insane how he makes it look easy...

Love this segment !! So much work for a few bombs always worth it! Yeeeew John and Koa!! There's days I paddle out knowing I might not catch a wave in but the contest w myself then becomes me against the ocean to at least make it out. It all helps gain experience in all conditions. Such a much more realistic surf video than all the flashy surf vids we're used to seeing. Theres places in the UK/Ireland with huge long sandy bottoms that behave quite similarily..huge paddle outs....wave after wave....though they don't typically have a vicious monster waiting for you if you do make it!
Editing, or lack thereof, makes it feel like your watching a home video. So feels very intimate; like you’re hanging with your buddies. I’m new to the channel so we’ll see if that starts getting old. What I definitely like is I’m getting to see the true experience of a professional surfer. Like having real issues paddling out (I thought that only happened to me), fighting for waves, dealing with flat days, etc. Most surf videos simply show barrel after barrel after barrel. Which is cool, but not representative of the true experience. Confirms my experiences are normal for everyone.
This is such a good video to learn things as a surfer. From the raw footage, you can see the reality of surfers and how to approach getting out the back. Mostly, you can't just get in there nilly willy and hope you will get lucky. It takes timing, microadjustments, and being sharp and have strong pushes from the start. Even if you are those things, only 2 made it through. Then the video goes on and shows how to approach if you didn't make it. You get out (don't stay in), and get a view again from the beach where the rips are, where to get inn recharge, and go again (there is zero shame in that, look at Ivan smiling like he is having fun even though he couldn't get through, amazing mindset to have, given what he just went through). These boys make it all look like natural, but there are so many things you can pick up in this video as a progressing surfer. If you can't get out the back just about anywhere, how do you expect to become a surfer ready for al types of adventures.
It looks easy from an outsider looking in, but you can tell everything is calculated and takes some serious serious skill to do what these guys do. Sheeesh
Mad respect to the boys. Endless paddle makes this so brutal! I might call that 12 to 15 East Coast measure, but it's not about the wave size, it's about that damn paddle that I could never do
This was a badass idea for a video as it showcases just how amazing these athletes are. I am sure it looks about 20x worse being on the board trying to hammer through the break along with the occasional wave washing back out against the surf making it that much harder.
The thing that is the worst is after you are just about to get out and you’re exhausted you get to that crucial point and have a huge on break right on top of you or just in front. When you’re at your weakest is when you’re worked the most. Don’t bail if you’re in that situation because if your leash snaps it really sucks. Bear hug your board.
Even I have my limits....days like this ...I sit and watch...it takes every ounce of human strength to make it out on days like this...I'm to old now...that's for the complete athletes....just clean 6ft all day with light offshore...that's where it's at for me...hats off to you guys for making it out.. amazingly committed....I was there once...God bless you all...

I remember going for the bottom trying to avoid a wave half this size and I can only describe as hitting a brick wall running at full speed underwater and no time to inhale enough air for the hold down and subsequent tumble cycle. Those were the days! Props!
STUDS! I was in South Africa a couple of months ago and we had one onshore day that was a wave after wave flushing. It wasn't even a fraction of this size but it was relentless. I found myself screaming swear words underwater every time I would duck under another wave and get pushed back! 🤬 I'll say it again, these guys are studs!
