The VA has to preform the scene themselves in a mocap suit which they use as a baseline for the characters animations. Instead of going though and painstakingly animating Astarion, which is why it's great that the VA is also a professional Mo-Cap performer.
I think the way Astarion behaves in this scene is how he was before he became a spawn. He isn't graving power but enjoys to have it. And now as a spawn he needs it to protect himself from Cazador. Also Mmogurl have you thought about making a video about Zevran?
I have a lot of topics on my plate at this moment with all the new patch 5 stuff as well as mass effect content I still haven't put together, but I'll get this on the list for getting done at some point too. I still want to go through the rest of the dragon age games as well.
OMG I can never get too much Astarion. I have to keep starting over just to see these awesome scenes. Can't wait to see where Larian goes with the story. I am very much an Astarion girl, but I wouldn't mind if Larian made Gale a little bit more flirty. Not full on like Astarion (because he is not Astarion), but just a little more.
I completely agree! I actually whined to my husband about how even though I'm very happy to have a lot of new Astarion scenes, that I wish they'd give the others more scenes as well.. especially Gale and Laezel. But Gale in particular because he is my other favorite for romance. I actually like Astarion and him pretty closely, but Astarion just that much more because he feels more fine tuned. I would LOVE to see more with Gale though and he seems to me like he should have a suave side, doesn't he? There's always talk about how handsome he thinks he is, etc.. Seems he'd be confident enough to get more romantic and less cheesy!

I love this scene too, but am I the only one who took the "I still need you" line as, well, a threat? To me, it came across as "once your value is gone, you're fair game." I mean, the man could possibly kill you without remorse if you fail your saving throws after giving him a nibble. Even gaslights you after. I'm 100% an Astarion simp like everyone else here, but the man definitely has an edge of danger to him, and that "need you" line came across as him flashing his fangs rather than showing affection imo
Nah, why would you think that? :D I mean, look at Tav´s face after he said that - she doesn´t think he´s just kidding. The same with the scene where you talk with him about the way he should kill when the time comes. It´s not just black humor. No matter how flirty he is, he´s still no friend or lover (in the true sense of the world) of yours. Remembver he doesn´t care who lives and who dies. But to be more fair, the night when he could bite you is supposed to be pretty early on in the game, so you barely know each other.
@@svoba4af Oh, I absolutely agree. I think that in Acts 2 and 3 you might be able to get closer to him. I think it might even be an ME2 situation where if you finish his character arc with Cazador in away he approves of (as in not selling him off to the Gur hunter or Cazador directly) that he'd open up to you and care more. Or maybe Larian will hit us with a dagger to the heart and just make him a vampy sociopath. Doubtful, but who knows. The few moments of real vulnerability we get give me hope, haha.

I mean - the shadiest companion turning on you and you have to kill him now. Why would they do this s....t? They wouldn´t waste such a character for something so trivial. I think we´re all paranoid from our experience with Game of Thrones and the tired habit of movies and TV series nowadays to try to squeeze emotional reaction from the viewers no matter what emotion it is. However, Larian is no Hollywood studio or HBO. Look, most of the scenarios with Astarion won´t have any sort of happy ending (he´d be dead or become fantasy Lestat). If left to his own devices or with evil Tav, he´ll simply take the path of revenge and power and not because of his vampiric urges but because he really wants to. But I´m pretty certain there will be ways to prevent it - he´d be fine with just being free of Cazador even if it means not becoming true vampire, after all.

Based on what we've seen so far, I'd tend to think Larian would go for the sort of realistic sweet spots with these character that aren't all sunshine and rainbows but also aren't just "he evil so he kill you." I don't expect happy golden endings either because they honestly wouldn't fit the characters or environment. Though, I am curious if there's a true vampire Astarion ending in the works. And maybe he could turn you. Spawn if you aren't close and true vampire if you are. It'd definitely be interesting.

DnD vampires are no Twilight or Interview with the vampire conflicted souls and even if you don´t know that, Astarion says they hate competition. He´s only not a monster when you compare him to some others.

Oh this was an evil playthrough, so I focused very heavily on Astarion, and Laezel just kind of approved the rest of my not so nice choices. Gale came along very unhappily, pouting the entire time about what a bad person I was! xD

I have a solution for you as I don't have a gaming PC! Have you tried Stadia? It works amazingly well because you are not downloading the game but streaming. As long as you have decent internet it should run smoothly for you.
The "...I still need you." line kinda hit me a little differently. It came off a bit meacing as if he's making it clear that if he didn't need us he just might kill Tav off with little if any regret at that point for food and inturn more power. (We all know what happens when we don't stop him from drinking from us.) Or he's just trying to make light of how much he needs us as he loathes appearing weak now that he's free. Granted he's a spawn and been through a lot but it will be interesting to find out if we can really earn his absolute loyalty or capture his heart. Right now, as of patch 8, he can certainly be in lust with our protagonist or fond of them but I hold serious doubts he's barely able to start trusting or loving fully anyone. If he's head over heels already in love with Tav he's trying his best to play it cool. After all it's been a long time since anyone has given him any real concern for his wellbeing without strings. What's left of his humanity seems to be hanging on by a tread. It would be natural he might need more time to process these new feelings. Figure out what to do with himself now that he's free. But that's just my impression... perhaps it's a touch jaded.
I´d like to point out that it doesn´t matter how much he approves you. As he is, it´s all superficial and he´d ditch you the first time it´s beneficial. So doing just questionable and evil stuff to gain exceptional approval with him might prove counterproductive. But for the scene itself - when I first heard it a few months ago, I was frustrated no matter how funny and flirty he is. Buddy, is there even a chance you won´t become Cazador 2.0 even when I´m showing you left and right that you can trust me and world isn´t always such a shitty place? Anyway, the other new scenes with Astarion are more light-hearted and even sweet if you choose so. He´s somehow adorable in the scar-reading scene and it seems like the first time he truly sees you.
Eh I usually go with a roleplaying vibe for each game and this was an evil game, so it wasn't counterproductive at all for my Tav in this instance! I get what you're saying about him wanting to become Cazador 2.0 so to speak, but I think it's more about explaining why he is how he is. This is still just the first Act, so he has a LOT of room for growth. I also don't think he would turn on you that quickly after the romance scene, and if he did I have a feeling he would come groveling back because he'd realized he messed up big time. I have a feeling there is going to be just such a scene too that will depend on your relationship with him. Sort of Zevran style, ya know? Except without the urging of another faction. I still haven't seen the scar-reading scene! I'm looking forward to it - hopefully I'll actually get it in this playthrough.

I'm always saying that when he's too happy like when you're a jerk or sleep with him, it's never a good sign :D His mind just... works this way and perhaps always did. The scar-reading scene is cute and bonding and also pain in the ass to trigger - he needs to tell you about the scars first, of course, and you need to rest a lot.
Ahh that might be it - I went through all of the options and I think the one I ended on was the you were loud to the camp option xD Which means bypassing the scar chat. Thanks for the tip though - I would have thought there were only 3 new ones!
@@Mmogurl I only got the "drawing his scars" talk when I found out about them before the love scene. I think I found out about his scars on the morning after the 2nd dream (or one of the dreams). Unfortunately those talks are bugged right now because only the highest approval person talks about the dream now. After I asked about his dream, I talked to him again and he says "I suppose you want to hear about Cazador." I'm pretty sure that's when he mentions the poetry Cazador carved on his thralls.
I have a feeling he’s going to surprise us but only if you romance him. I can see him giving up power for you. Bring the first person to treat him as an equal. Orrrr he’ll betray us. 😞
Well for me this dialog poped up for the first time (yes i didnt play BG3 for a long time) and after sleeping, at the morning my companions noticed: Astarion's gone, where is he? And my character said: he left this morning... So yeah, he get blood-drunk and left afterwards :/
I’m trying to get this scene and the one where he asks you whose blood in camp would taste best? Can anyone tell me how long after finding out he is a vamp, it’ll take them to trigger? I missed both on my 1st run😭
