How do you get across different temperatures and materials? Like the Sahara heat or artic cold? Like liquid bubbling or the notes slipping on the ice? If this makes no sense, it's my Synthesia thing where I blur senses, and I'll figure it out. Some examples are the ice sounds in Nicki Minaj's Super Base & Bees In The Trap, and the liquid sounds in the Banjo Tooie lava world theme and the Mario underwater theme.
Amen brother!!! That tip/trick of previewing the rhythm of the melody before the actual melody hits is pureeeee gold🔥 thank you for everything you do!!🙏🏼
If you are a self-starter and motivated to learn, music schools around the country can't teach you better than videos like these. The abundance of free, first-rate education on YT continually astonishes and uplifts me. The biggest benefit someone gets going to a music academy is the built-in camaraderie, contacts and collaboration. But if you are good at networking with that yourself, Godspeed!
Whilst I completely agree with this, as someone that has been following Will and on his mailing list for years and years. I do partially disagree with your statement. I've found that not only did I get networking, collaborations and opportunities from going to music academies. I've also gained perspectives that couldn't be adventures and discussed in one video so it depends on the person. Learning from just RUclips videos limited the potential learning I could do in that time. This is why Wills EDM Tips school is worth going for or even going to university as I did as its sometimes your mindset holding back your ability or creativity! This is only my experience. If anyone disagrees then feel free to respond, I do not aim to offend anyone or make anyone feel invalidated or unheard!! Much love producers, keep it grooving!
The biggest thing I realized learning from RUclips, is you dont get the necesary feedback. I got to the point I struggle to hear what I can do to advance further. (Not a plug) About to start the program with Will tomorrow for that reason.
Right...thats why i give myself a time limit to produce a song sometimes. Sometimes it's only one night...😜 The other reason why i like the time limit is the fact that i don't have to go through tons of sounds or presets...😁
@@JoyfulWAVEhaha, I'm a starter, I'm like, I've got the time, I'm gonna take my time, I want to make something familiar yet innovating/new, thinking about switching genres mid track for little moments 😅 because I like genres that people don't like to combine (or people that only like one or the other but not both), but that's the reason I do want to combine them...😂
I’m watching video after video from your channel, and I’m just blown away. This is like a hidden gem among all the RUclips videos. I don’t know what kind of course you have, but it seems like it must be amazing if you’re putting out videos of this quality for free.
Another trick I use which is common in trance music, is to repeat a note, same pitch and a certain repeating pattern with slight variation on every 4th bar at the build up stage of the track, slightly increasing the pitch and then during the break introducing a new simple melody with that same synth sound with a slight variation on every 4th bar.
With this and your 5 emotion melody tutorial, you managed to answer in less than 20 minutes a few of the most important production questions Ive had since I started, failed, and restarted making electronic dance music.
Hell Yeah amen Brother! thanks Will another great video, as one of your students these videos are great but what im learning in the course. is a must have, first release on 21st July, wouldn't have been possible without you and all the people in the EDM tips group 🤟
OMG~~~ I just realized how many mistakes I made. I knew something was wrong, but I couldn't figure out why. Now I know~ Thank you thank you thank you! Cheers mate!
This is great content! It is always good when a melody is just not working no matter what instrument you try and you can recognise this and have another go at it 👍
Those 3 common mistakes that you mentioned are things I do a lot as well, and it still works a lot of times due to how much I know about music theory. I will continue doing them, but I will leave those tips at the back of my head if I ever get stuck.
Hey nice Video again and I would like to add something important here: Most successful songs (melodies, chords, etc..) are based on repeat. Because only repeating (without emotion) of the same melody, no matter how terrible it is, burn themselves into the memory. Good music that triggers strong emotions the first time you hear it does not need these repetitions. For this reason, even the biggest crap (eg folk music) makes it into the charts. Repeating is the Key for Learning, but not for good Music. It trains your brain to like something in order to remember it. If you don't like a song the first time you listen to it, listening to it several times will train you to like or hate it and stored in your brain. Emotion is the Key, because with emotion you will allways remember good Music without repeating. Our Brain today is trained to learn Music not to feel it, thats why repeating is imortend to us remember this. Thats why the most "successful Music" today sounds the same and need a Genre. This is why i make Music i like & feel only = not successful ;) Greetings from Germany Frank N.
Of course you should finish come on it sounds amazing and it’s not the first time I hear a good track from you, glad to hear your composer side too (the only thing missing is your process on Shaperbox 😢😂)cheers 🍻
HELL YEAH bro! release that shit lol i'd like to add that using sequencing is a great way to add rising tension, such as before the drop or chorus. For example, sequencing a melody so that it works its way up the scale, either having its interval remain exact (which sometimes introduces chromatics) or to fit the scale. i also like to keep the same idea, but throughout different sections, present it with different instrumentation. guitar during the verse, a bright synth for the chorus, etc.
Hello Will, starting to watch your channel being pretty tired and went, yannnnt boring, then after a few minutes wen, Hey lots of good stuff here. Now your one of my favorite Music Theory channel. In other words, give the guy a chance!!!! No you in partikular but in general, "open your mind" people To you question, been a professional DJ for about 12 year in all kind of club and was extremely successful (90th's Unwort) and had a very solid reputation for finding good club hit (was the first DJ in Germany to play "pump up the Jam" or "Mary hat a little boy" in Germany ) and YES, from the very first note this song got my hear. So you should definitely look into this tune Salve, Frenchy
