This song of Sarah was called a "Sleeper hit" because it gained popularity three years after its release in 2019. The song won "Song of the Year” at the 2017 Myx Music Awards. Sarah performed this song at the ASEAN-Japan Music Festival held in Tokyo. In 2020, the song have earned a total of almost two hundred million views. Well, After Regine Velasquez, Sarah is the biggest artist who can draw a big crowd in every single concert she does. There's this trivia that "Tala" was supposed to be a Coldplay vibe song, written with a soft acoustic melody, but Sarah G suggested a dance rhythm; hence, "Tala" blossomed into an ethnic-pop/dancehall hit and has made a phenomenal impact on pop culture.

Now that you've noticed those "weird" sounds, it made me realized that they didn't only incorporate some of Philippines' tribal dances and clothing but their sound as well. There were parts of the song that sounded like they were produced using different traditional instruments.

Her costumes are inspired by Filipino indigenous clothing, our traditional weaves & textiles. The hula skirt might be inspired, I think, by costumes in Filipino festivals. The Ati-atihan festival costumes also have those kinds of skirts made with grass or feathers. Next time you visit the Philippines, you should come see the many different festivals.😄

This song and dance became international, even reached Africa and host of different countries. It has been the dance steps of 1 decade.
This is one of the original song of Ms Sarah G, the Pop Princess of the Philippines, this dance was inspired by tribal costume used by our native tribes that still exist and have been wearing until now here in different provinces especially in Mindanao..Our culture is rich and we respect our ancestry, we may be influenced by the westerner but we still cannot forget where our roots come from..💕👍😘😉👏💃🕺
According to some interviews about this song, this is a mix of pop and traditional Filipino ethnic sounds or music. Perhaps that what made you confused a little. The producers tried to incorporate beats/music from traditional musical instruments. That's what you are hearing that sounded like skipped notes/beats. This is prominent in the section where Sarah is just dancing and onwards until near the end. Those beats or rhythms are normal for us Filipinos especially in the ethnic circles. After the dance part, you will hear the traditional musical instruments are more dominant. You noticed too her outfits. These are what some our ethnic women traditionally wears.
The head producer of the song named O-Jam came up with the beat/sound for the whole song back in Nov 2015. The sound was unheard of at the time. Tala was originally a slow love song but Sarah wanted a dance song with an interesting beat and what you heard is what O-Jam came up with. It was done in a hurry because it's the last song to be included in the album. It was in the layout stage when the song was submitted to Viva.

Diction is important in almost every singing contest in the Philippines so that’s also why you can hear the words clearly. I swear when I was growing up, I learned that word “diction” more from watching singing contest in tv than in school. Every judge/coach will comment on that whether you’re singing in tagalog/other languages in the Philippines or english. It’s a must that they understand you
There’s this kvariety show where they’ll listen to the song and they’ll write the lyrics and they struggle with it and I always wonder, will that be hard for tagalog song? Because even if I can’t rap like Gloc 9, I can write what he’s saying (but that’s just probably what I think 😅)
Also, that’s probably why our english Filipino accent sounds like this too. Sometimes it’s hard to do that “slang” American sound/accent or British accent etc. We tend to pronounce every syllable since our language is very syllabic, it’s read exactly how it’s written. Like why have so many silent letters, just spell it as it is 😅

Yeah, I'm curious about the costume inspo, too. To me, it has very strong influences of Malayo-Polynesian/Pacific Islands, our origins. The other set reminds me of the many colors of Mindanao, the native grass skirts and accessories from Ati-Atihan and Masskara Festival, from our local products and traditional homes. Body tattoos are also big part of our precolonial culture. This also reminds me of Janet Jackson's Together Again MV..

There's a lot of cover (song and dance ones) and somehow they nail it. i guess it boils down to singing along with it gazillion times that it's become instinctive.

FYI, if you notice the various intricate costumes that Sara and the back up dancers wore? Those are derived from the indigenous tribes that are present in the Philippines.The noises that you kept hearing have something to do with what the tribes use as well. The sound engineer intentionally put it in the music overlay. The dance choreography itself is all over You Tube mimicked in several videos. Another thing about Sarah Geronimo you need to know, she was the lone judge that turned for Morissette Amon on the The Voice PH in 2014, and she coached Morissette for the competition. Basically, if Sarah did not turn for Morissette, who knows what the future held?
The weird sound is our Traditional Filipino tribal sounds. To us, its very rare that you heard that sound nowadays, but Sarah incorporates it with her song Tala♥️
