Been playing metal since 78 boss is all ive ever used. Metal zone gets a bad rap but its all ihave used since it came out. Boost it with a boss super overdrive and its amazing on a marshall or randall. Can play any type of metal... Great vid and awesome playing..
Lol Im pretty sure this was one of everyones first pedal they bought when they first started playing guitar and b4 they had an ear for better sounding tones. Guiltttyyyy.
leave alone the distortion knob (best zero) ,tweak the eq,put a EH Soul Food/ etc. in front of it and you get a tight/cut through Satriani lead/rythm sound... this pedal has very small sweet spot...but then it rocks!
Where Boss went wrong with this pedal is it's actually a wonderful blues pedal and needs to be re-marketed. If you start with everything around 12:00 o'clock except distortion around 9:00 o'clock and play single note solos, you'll get a thick, mid-range, creamy tone much like the one used by Gary Moore. Sounds like crap for chords and like crap for scooped sounds, but really nails a nice bluesy solo tone. Problem is, it's named and advertised as a Metal pedal. I just don't understand that.
You are absolutely right! I have been using this pedal for months for blues rock and hard rock and sounds perfect. Idk why they would call it a metal pedal
I have this pedal, but i could really use some help figuring something out. What's the most optimal settings for the clean channel that you put this pedal infront of? As in, what lows/mids/highs do you put on the channel that plays when this pedal is turned off .... or does it matter??
It has a nasal sound a bit like when you press down just a touch on a wah pedal. But it has a lot of EQ to thicken it up. I just got one and made a video.
I wish you guys would do a BOUTIQUE pedal line. Nothing but HiFi Audiophile grade thru hole components with the ability to mod the EQ section or a gain/clipping stage. Sockets on the pcbs or even turret/ tagstrip type build. Bring back the build styles of the 60s/70s and early 80s. Before you switched down to ¼w components. Your old stuff is awesome. Something about it was heading in the right direction it then the 90s happened and everybody switched to ¼w and ⅛w parts to make way for SMD. SMD is just not for audio circuits. Maybe a few passive circuit sections but audio fx pedals need thru hole components. Yinz just need to work in some Alchemy to get yur fx pedals to be even better than prior to like 1995. Mid to late boss pedals all but suck for some reason. Seperate Eq daughter board or off board eq, whatever you wanna call it. Pedals need RIVERS OF SOLDER. The old single layer burnt reddish/brownish colored PCBs with the RIVERS OF SOLDER on the connection side. Wide thick beautiful shining traces. Pedals need the interaction of those bad ass traces.
If the pedal is not on, then it doesn't matter. I love this pedal, wants you tweak it, too your liking it sounds awesome. Here is my settings. The song sweet child of mine by Guns and roses. Slashes guitar tone on that song is the sound I push for. Then on my clean I push for eric Johnson tone. I have other pedals of course but the Metal zone is my go to pedal.
This pedal CAN get the job done!! It just depends on the players & amps used!! The thing is built & designed to TWEAK people!! It CAN get treble-ly,..mid range boosty,..and scooped & Bass heavy!! What I love about it is....even though it can cover all that ,...it doesn’t break up!! Brings out the distortion effect clean! If your looking for “overdrive” then get THAT pedal for god sakes!! ✌🏾🤘🏾🎶✨🎸⚡️Rock on! Yawl!!
@@jonyq Yeah,..I damn sure do! Works for me!! ..and I have the Boss Power Stack 2 as well!! “To Each,..His or Her Own❗️” ya’ know! ..😐 In a “Concert Arena”..No one is gonna know nor care about what one (Guitarist/Bassist )..is using, just as long as they play well and make that show 🎹🥁🎸🎺🪘✨🔊🔊🎶🎈🎉🥂🍾worth the 💵💰..period! 😒
I just bought one and I use it on an already dirty channel and it makes my amp sound way more metal. Using it on a clean channel just isn't so satisfactory for me.
THE BEST DISTORTION PEDAL OF ALL TIME, THEREFORE ABSOLUTELY SUITABLE FOR EXTREME METAL. YES, THIS GORGEOUS PEDAL OFFERS US A HUGE PALETTE OF WONDERFUL COLOR. THE SECOND BEST-SELLING BOSS PEDAL AFTER THE DISTORTION. ALL THOSE WHO SAY TO DESPISIZE AND UNDERVALUE THIS WONDERFUL AS ICONIC PEDAL KNOW NOTHING.
Synyster Gates use his own amp and guitar, both custom models. You'd have to get a Schecter Synyster Gates Custom or Custom-S guitar and a Hellwin amp to sound just like him, or you could just find out what settings he uses and try to get a tone close to it with different sets. I don't think that he uses many pedal effects, as far as I know he just play with his amp channels and some kind of compressor, at least for live performances.
+Riefky KC if you want to be close to synyster's sound, I suggest you put the low on 4.00, mid on 3.00 and treble on 11.00. Also keep in mind synyster likes to play arpeggios, so don't push the drive too much or it will be muddy
Boss has some of the top peddles Ever made, still used buy top guitarist if ya play cheap-er amp playing clean on the amp, then the effects. Useualy its not the boss, Its the player
@@mikebell4129 probably from someone who doesn't natively speak english (though "keith ellis" certainly sounds like an english name), or is dyslexic, or something, tbh.
AnotherGuyOnRUclips It sounds cool. but the feel of it is mediocre, which is why so many people hate the pedal. However, where they go wrong is that most people who use the pedal are already using it on amps with far too much gain on them and it just makes the whole thing sound like shit
@matiganek And that's why it sucks. People who try to stick with analogue with the state digital modeling is today needs to stop living in the past. Every single pedal BOSS makes sounds like a fuzzstortion box because they're small solid state circuits where it's limited to shape the tone to sound more realistic. I'd say they should stick to modeling, but for some reason 90% of their "COSM" stuff sounds awful too. They should fire whoever does the programming on their COSM products.
Boss pedals can sound totally fine IF you use them into a decent amp. That's what drive pedals were invented for in the first place. They don't make nice sounds by themselves, really. A lot of new players go through a phase of trying to use just OD pedals --> some tiny cheap practice amp. Which fails because small practice amp speakers sound totally differently than 'proper' amps.
@War Zone Sure, tbh if you know what you're doing you can usually get a usable tone out of most things as long as they're not truly dire. Particularly if you play well. I suppose when I wrote that reply originally I was referring to newbie players who, to be fair are going to sound bad through most gear.
I'm not sure this helps the argument that this pedal is valid. That sounds terrible. I'm also pretty sure that last sample was out of tune. Jeez, guys.
there isn't nothing wrong with the way both sound just have to fuck with the settings to get it just right. I've had my metal zone for years never had a problem with it :-)
There is a new and updated MT-2 Metal Zone video now available!

I've used the metal zone with an sg, and I have to say, it gives me everything I want in a metal guitar.
when I heard the drums and the slide I could've sworn that was painkiller (Judas priest)

This is a great example of the versatility this pedal offers...great job!
Came back to this after checking out some clips of the new MT-2w. It is amazing how much they improved the design and sound of this pedal.

Same here
3 years late but I can very much say I’m guilty. Especially with my impeccable squire strat and 15w fender amp at the time 😂😂

Plug it to your effects loop
boss makes alot of pretty good pedals but not videos
I think these videos are awesome!
These are Amazing! However they're just old. If they make it in 2020 that'd be sick
This VDO since 2008
LoL it's the best for that time
MASTER! MASTER!
Put it in your effects loop on your amp and it'll sound good!
When can we expect a WAZA Craft version? :D
Wagoo there is actually one come out today, the day that i write this comment. Ola Englund will review it soon according to his instgram
Got it

Best pedal ever
0:42 is the only decent sound
All Boss distortions have the same problems to me, they're super tinny/treble-y and they just aren't musical (now their OD's are a different story)

***** Hate a7x all you want but Synyster's definitely not a bad guitarist and his tone isn't too bad IMO

Lol never put a blues guitar player with a metal zone!! 🤣🤣🤣
when i put my dist level that low it sounds NOTHING like that what the actual fuck
Sounds bad.... ass....
BADASS 🤘
how would this sound with p90's
Sounds really gritty.

And this pedal is where digital > analog.
This pedal is analog gone wrong.
Back before people realized it was a preamp.
Nothing wrong with the guitarists skills here ...but that type of sound ..ah no man ! This pedal is the most gotten rid of , on OLX !
i take back my comment when he added mids XD
sounds like squidward
It has a shitty sound, but somehow this shit sound works well, which actually makes it a decent pedal if you look for this specific sound.

pedal's too thin sounding >_
All distortion pedals sound thin compared to an amp with a good distortion channel.
You can't see the effing dials!
Half the video is of guy adjusting the damn settings!
not digital, no tubes ; ] all solid state, analog.
This pedal sounds best with distortion at 9 I clock volume max and all other at 12 o'clock with a tubescreamer in front
