Thank you! This will help tremendously when i rebuild my prelude engine next year! She is my daily driver with 237,000 miles on an all original drivetrain... Needles to say say she burns oil more than i burn the devil's lettuce... I owe you one!
This is the best, and cleanest H22 rebuild video I've seen. Thank you for keeping the camera still and your detail is great. Love that you keep everything in view. I have a EF with a H22 a4 I'm looking to rebuild.
I need to rebuild my engine and this series of videos is giving me the confidence to do it myself. I know it’ll be tough and time consuming but I want to learn and this seems like the perfect opportunity, which kinda gives a silver lining to the situation. I have more research to do first but this is an excellent start! Keep it up!
This is definitely gonna help my do my rebuild on my h22a4. What is the name of the site you used to get the parts. So I can order mine. And by any chance do you have a video of taking out the motor. I’d really appreciate it
Hey bro I was about to purchase the same kit I was just wondering how is your engine running with those pistons? How many miles do you have? I'm weary of buying that kit but its a great deal. And you used it ! Did you clock the 1st and 2nd ring gap on the intake side of the piston or the exhaust? And where did you install the oil ring if so. Please let me know an update. You are the God of h22 my man.
Nice video, are there any parts you need to replace when re-installing the Balance shafts? Like bearings or seals, it's just I will be rebuilding mine soon for a 3rd gen prelude H22 swap
Are these all factory pistons and rings? My 1999 Prelude smokes quite a bit, I think it's time for a little rebuild. What rings are good to have this not happen again?
yo love the series man, you have a tutorial on installing those oil squirters in the block? before you even install everything, i stripped it all the way to those squirters and not sure how to re install lol
What kind of ring compressor tool is that as in the brand??? I need to get a new one like that one ur using..the one I have is junk was a proform it didnt last very long..broke a ring using it
If I were to replace the oil pump how do you take the shaft off the pump assembly? I saw a video where a guy couldn’t get the nut off the face off the pully
So I think my pistons are fried in my 98 prelude and was wondering if I could replace those myself ? I’ve heard that I can’t and have to send it somewhere to have it resurfaced but was wondering if I could do something myself?
I’m going to be rebuilding an engine for the very first time, your videos are awesome and will definitely help me a lot as I try to keep up lol. I bought a full engine gasket kit (2 sets) from felpro, I’ve noticed you used Honda bond in some areas where I have gaskets, should I use those or purchase black RTV? (Honda bond not sold in Canada)

My cylinder walls look to be in similar condition. No real scoring, just burning lots of oil. Did you measure your cylinders beforehand or just drop std size 87mm in? I'm building an h22a4 as well, cant decide to spend money on overbore with the machine shop.
Hey broham what did you end up doing? Everything im reading doesn't encourage a bore unless there is warpage, or scarring. But a knowledgeable shop would have to do it. I don't trust anyone lol.
@@xicelinkx what I ended up doing was using a wiseco 89mm nylon finishing brush to develop a cross hatch. Cost me $100 w shipping, worth it in my opinion. Removed the light vertical scoring in each cylinder, using 87.0mm pistons
@@matteocoutant4282 Yo keep me posted on how that works out. My prelude is drinking oil, but the only thing worrying me about a rebuild are those damn frm cylinder walls.

Did you hot tank the motor before doing a rebuild? Did you find resurfacing the block or head necessary for the project? Want to tear down my blown H to learn. Eventually try to replace bearings/rings on my spare motor.
It would be unreal, too bad the gasket actually is on their bud. It’s on the oil pick up side I just held it on with my fingers but you can see a tab poking out of it, it’s also covered extensively on part 3. Thank you.
Thank you!

Love the Darude Sandstorm Torque wrench haha
Thanks now I won’t un-hear that 😂
I will using your video a lot as I rebuild my 97 prelude
Great build. My brother and I rebuilt a B18, but he use a scale to weigh the pistons and rods and match them up for a perfect balance.
Thanks for posting this! Getting excited to do this to my 97 prelude 😃
Appreciate this... Thanks for documenting and sharing
Yeah man
I love that torque Wrench, I need that. Also great vid.
did you hone the frm sleeves?
Or did you leave them as is if they didn't have any scratches?

Hey man, great video. Did source each part individually, or go for a rebuild kit? OEM or aftermarket?
Did you buy new connecting rod bolts and nuts? I'm about to do the exact same thing to mine. Nice video too, really helps
You recommend rebuilding any specific parts
I’m thinking should i buy a whole new engine and trans of rebuild the engine myself and buy the LSD trans separately
where did you buy your parts, Im doing the same thing.. need to know where to buy online. also CAN YOU TELL US HOW WELL THE ENGINE IS DOING NOW?
No pre lube needed for cup side of bearings?

do some research into a balance shaft delete kit.
after torquing down the bolts to 54 ft lbs I can no longer turn the crankshaft. is this normal or did I mess something up?

H22A4 engines are fitted with FRM (Fiber Reinforced Metal) sleeves, a thin lining of strong metals that doesn’t require traditional honing.
