    Hi sir, I know that violating some of the Westgard rules would provoke a process shift. I wonder what that means exactly as the central mean is not moving.

      Basically its a shift in trend. And laboratory Means do change from time to time :) If a similar trend continues so its better to identify any systemic error and rectify asap!

      @@DrArindamGhoshBiochemistry I understand thank you. Actually I was interested to know if the grand mean shifts when special causes are present. The reason why I get a bit confused is that the grand mean is calculated by averaging all the single means (including those out of control), so I wonder how the grand mean itself can shift if it's calculated by averaging the points of its own chart.

    Sir, can i still interpret an R4s violation if it's not on 2 consecutive days? For example, day 5 is outside control limits, day 6 (the mt failed to record the value) and on day 7, the value is again outside control limits

      R4s has no relationship with days. It's a random error not a trend. One can have r4s on consecutive days..but they are isolated events..not related to each other..
