I caught a porch pirate red handed once! I got a text that my packages have been delivered and I was in the house watching TV and didn't her my door bell. So I opened the front door and a big guy was walking away with my large boxes and I grabbed my pistol and ran after him and he saw my gun which I have a permit to carry and dropped the boxes and ran like a scarred rabbit! Lol! I called the police and they came but never seen the guy. I have never seen the guy before and he didn't live in our neighborhood. I don't think he'll be back either.🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

This happened to me once. Two young boys stole a package from my front porch and the next day a man walking his dog returned it, unopened. It literally was just a kids water bottle inside. Parents should pay extra attention to their kids this time of year
The parents of those kids should walk back with the micro-thieves and make them apologize directly to the victim. Maybe offer to mow their lawn or scrape their sidewalk as penance (parent supervising of course, holding a nice cold beverage and sitting in a lawn chair). Teach 'em right when they are young.
I was a dumb 14 year old (little more then them) and I would like to think I'm a better person now, dont even rarely leave the house lol so I believe that what you did in adolescence shouldn't be the defining characteristic of your life🙂

Do Fed Ex drivers work with porch pirates? I have commercial sized signs posted to deliver packages to rear door (3 signs). I have a sign at the front door (No deliveries at this entrance). After a few calls to Amazon customer support their drivers started delivering to the back door. Fed Ex drivers still deliver to the front. I had numerous thefts from the front. The largest item being a computer.
One deterrent I’ve found is to hide whether or not there are any packages on your porch by installing a box Just For packages. If most criminals can’t tell if there’s a package, they will usually move onto their next victim. Because why take the chance of nothing being there? I built a crate with a lid and affixed a small label, instructing the delivery people what it’s for. I recorded my mailman, when he first saw the crate and read the label saying, “Smart Move!” It’s been working for me for months. And with a closed box for use ONLY by the owner and delivery people, porch pirates by entering the crate to steal is considered Breaking and Entering, not just Criminal Trespass.

If you ship stuff make sure to ship them signature required if you're the receiver have your currier hold the packages if you're not going to be home or babysit the door if the shipper did not ship with signature required especially if it is a high value item. That would cut down on the porch pirates.

In my home town 3 teens were stealing from cars & packages on porches. I knew one of them who *was* going to graduate after his bad life choices. He had a bail bond of 5,000 & the others were at 15,000 & jail. His sister is one of my friends & was upset her brother was that stupid to be around terrible friends. His a free man after his parents paid the bond. He screwed up & hope he learned his lesson.

Who delivered these packages? If it was UPS, those packages are to be left out of sight from the street and out of weather. This may be a result of Amazon delivery people, and or other delivery services. When I receive Amazon packages the people making the delivery don't seem to care who may see them.

Three years later, it’s still happening
In my home town 3 teens were stealing from cars & packages on porches. I knew one of them who *was* going to graduate after his bad life choices. He had a bail bond of 5,000 & the others were at 15,000 & jail. His sister is one of my friends & was upset her brother was that stupid to be around terrible friends. His a free man after his parents paid the bond. He screwed up & hope he learned his lesson.
That teenager that brought the box back is a follower and the other teenager is a leader in crime. The follower needs to be more selective in his friends.

Because they’re minors. They did commit a crime but many states, most likely including the one where this happened, have very strict laws regarding making a minor’s criminal history public information

Who delivered these packages? If it was UPS, those packages are to be left out of sight from the street and out of weather. This may be a result of Amazon delivery people, and or other delivery services. When I receive Amazon packages the people making the delivery don't seem to care who may see them.
They didn't want the items, who wants a necktie. etc. etc. you get my point
Amazon is paying good money to the news agencies across America to illustrate the package theft problem as they are losing millions in replacement packages.
