@Joel Springman Actually, I had a package stolen that contained medication. Nothing was done. I didn't have a camera. I stay in an apartment complex and looking back, I think it was a particular neighbor. No proof though. This frustrates me to no end. I don't have a vehicle, so I don't have the luxury of always " picking it up". I just have to make sure I'm home or reschedule. Oh, I hate thieves with a passion.

  • @mrfester42
    @mrfester42 3 года назад +7

Having a conversation about "making better choices" is appropriate for getting in trouble for not doing your homework or not doing your chores but for something like this it's just a whole lot of coddling nonsense. When I was growing up, doing something like this would have earned me a good beating by my father.
The simple fact that these assholes are called porch pirates is just another indicator of how discipline and responsibility mean nothing to people anymore. "Porch Pirates" sounds almost benign like they"re some kind of cartoon characters in a Disney movie. The soft term also softens how people look at this type of behavior. Call them what they are. These guys are criminals. They're thieves and what they did is robbery plain and simple. Just because they didn't pick your locks or break a window to get into your house to steal doesn't make it any less criminal.
Having the nerve to go on someones property to steal from them is arrogant criminal behavior and they deserve some serious punishment from their parents if not the law. The fact that they're teenagers means that it'children

One deterrent I’ve found is to hide whether or not there are any packages on your porch by installing a box Just For packages. If most criminals can’t tell if there’s a package, they will usually move onto their next victim. Because why take the chance of nothing being there? I built a crate with a lid and affixed a small label, instructing the delivery people what it’s for. I recorded my mailman, when he first saw the crate and read the label saying, “Smart Move!” It’s been working for me for months. And with a closed box for use ONLY by the owner and delivery people, porch pirates by entering the crate to steal is considered Breaking and Entering, not just Criminal Trespass.

That would cut down on the porch pirates.

When a criminal's face is blurred; the law abiding citizens are put at a disadvantage. Recognizing a criminal can help get them off the street and give potential victims a heads-up to be more prepared. Hiding their faces benefits the criminal and puts the victim at a disadvantage. We should change the laws that perpetuate this nonsense. Bad guys get a break while good guys get punished.

Trespassing onto a person's property and stealing packages.
I mean that they actually have the nerve to come on your property! That violates your sanctity and comfort zone.
Harsher punishment for such crimes should be MANDATORY.
For example if a person steals a few MILLION DOLLARS they get LESS TIME than a person who steals five dollars.

Delivery guy should call in advance and set the time to deliver when the recepient is at home. Or just leave a note and have the recepient call for re-delivery.

I agree with what others say. Price doesn't matter. It's the same as assailing my person if you steal my things. I'm coming full force to retaliate and prosecute the interlopers.

Great story. I wish urban teens in the hood also got this sort of support, forgiveness instead of jail, beat downs, and vilification. Black teens have their faces on TV all the time, and it feeds into racism, when in reality teens of all colors do dumb stuff, steal, etc. Let's love all humans, after all. ... we're all family on one small planet/ Earth .. and trying to make some sense of things before our time is up.

In my home town 3 teens were stealing from cars & packages on porches. I knew one of them who *was* going to graduate after his bad life choices. He had a bail bond of 5,000 & the others were at 15,000 & jail. His sister is one of my friends & was upset her brother was that stupid to be around terrible friends. His a free man after his parents paid the bond. He screwed up & hope he learned his lesson.

That teenager that brought the box back is a follower and the other teenager is a leader in crime. The follower needs to be more selective in his friends.

    • @dtrns9

Because they’re minors. They did commit a crime but many states, most likely including the one where this happened, have very strict laws regarding making a minor’s criminal history public information

Who delivered these packages? If it was UPS, those packages are to be left out of sight from the street and out of weather. This may be a result of Amazon delivery people, and or other delivery services. When I receive Amazon packages the people making the delivery don't seem to care who may see them.
