The whole "make sure they're not too similar" bit is accurate. I'm reading a WW2 novel and a medieval fantasy at the same time. Thinking I may even have some mental space for a contemporary romance too lol we'll see!
I've started watching at least 10 different TV shows, and I bounce between them based on how I'm feeling. I'm also reading three books right now, lol.💜💜💜
I actually don't do this either lol. At least not if I'm watching it for the first time. I'll rewatch random eps from different sitcoms I like when I have a bit of free time though.
I totally subscribe to those rules of multiple book readings! But I would also say I usually have 1 physical book, 1 audiobook on my work phone, and 1 audiobook on my personal phone, and 1 audiobook for when my kids are in the car. So 4 books at a time, and all are for different scenarios!
Not going to lie, this skit actually has good advice about reading multiple books. I do also like the idea of having a grazing book: a book you pick up and read whenever you want.
At any given time I have one novel, one nonfiction book, one short story collection, one graphic novel, and a handful of literary journals going simultaneously.
"A beginning is the time for taking the most delicate care that the balances are correct." I actually had an idea to read all my books at the same time by reading one page from each. That idea didn't last long. Speaking of mixing things that are too similar, I'm in multiple D&D games and it's tricky to remember which characters can do what.
@@kelhussenelcosmere8145 why would you say that. I always have about five books going, one of them being an audiobook and one a long and intense nonfiction that would put me in a reading slump if I tried to read only that. Then I add one fun fantasy or science fiction book and the rest is whatever I am in the mood for. Maybe a classic, or literary fiction, whatever. I read about one book a week that way and make my way though really divers books. If I would only read one book at a time I would never pick up nonfiction or classics.
The erotic feelings for Dune are so accurate. My favorite is to read one fantasy with one classic which works for me tho ugh I still can't entirely stop feeling like I'm cheating
My system: 1 audiobook, up to 2 physical non-fiction books, a “long term” read for when I’m in-between books, a primary focus, and a secondary focus. Sometimes there’s overlap, such as when a non-fiction becomes the primary focus. Any books I’m forced to read (such as textbooks) don’t count in the system unless they’re audiobooks
I don't understand the "not all the same genre" mantra. Right now I'm reading Lord of the Rings, The Eye of the World, and The Wise Man's Fear at the same time. It would be preposterous to confuse them, even if the plots were similar. Good books are more than story!
Exactly! There is so much variety to a single genre. I mean just looking at fantasy, you can have dark-fantasy, epic-fantasy, cozy-fantasy, etc. And they are all completely different. Not to mention the worlds, characters, and everything else is completely different in each book
I'm reading three at a time. Two are not a choice because it's for school, the ONLY book I want to read is at home. So two are mandatory, and one is by choice.
Usually, i am reading my audible book. But when I have time to sit and read, I catch up on new chapter translations for novels from wuxiaworld ( I have 4 separate stories that i do this for right now)
I can't handle more than three at the same time. If there's more I usually just ignore them until I'm done with one of the main three. Each one a different genre, of course.
Yup I am the same way. I normally do 2 books at the same time, but my limit is 3. Anything over that and the enjoyment, and what I get out of the books, starts to get impacted
I have ADHD and so I read a minimum of 6-10 books at a time. I get too bored with one book and my brain needs to switch to another. Idk but I can just keep them all straight in my head. It’s actually really fun for me, and if I read similar books I can see similar themes as well as unique things an author does at the same time. Like last year I read Name of the Wind, Game of Thrones, Fellowship of the Ring and started Stormlight Archive. It was cool to see how four different authors handled the same genre and similar themes. I just learned to use my ADHD as a superpower rather than a hindrance lol! I guess according to this video my books and I are in an open relationship 😂😂
I just read one book at a time!! My reason is because if I start a whole other book before i finish this series of books I’ll probably forget about it and therefore I won’t want to read the book😔
That used to be my issue too. I would get so involved in the new book that I would forget about the old book. After some practice and forcing myself to alternate what I read on any given day I have gotten better. The most I do is 3 books at the same time though. Anything beyond that and my enjoyment, and what I get out of the books, starts to get impacted.
Now there's an analogy I hadn't heard before 😅 That is how I've been reading most of my life, I think. Multiple books at the same time.. There's a but or if or however you wanna call it, and that is in regard of longer series or series in general. I dunno why it just doesn't work for me. Or maybe I just can't keep up the attention, who knows. But it makes me think this is why I still haven't finished the Witcher series, even after multiple attempts on the series! I managed to read the Harry Potter books, though.. But then again that was when I was basically a kid and reading was.. I dunno, more magical compared to adult reading. Is that a thing?
8 at the same time is impressive! The most I can do is probably 3. But just like you I also hate having a DNF put back on the shelf. So I will just slowly work through a book, unless I really hate it
It took me a milli second to click on this one, why ? Because currently I m reading 12 books at a time & feeling not so good about myself. By the way, your video was fun
Well I am glad I watched the whole sketch before making any additional jokes that could be construed badly in this context. anyway 1960s sci-fi has the _best_ anthologies
Haha yes indeed! Many (most) of my books come from second-hand shops. Because the way I look at it, an old book reads just as good as a new book. And also, having 2 young kids in my house, alway pawing at my stuff...well let's just say it is one less thing to worry about.
Bath book, iPhone book, paperback book, difficult ‘project book’, poetry book, audiobook. 6 books at the same time is the way to go
Yeah, I have books for different scenarios, too...
"Bath book" is so real. I can't be holding up a 900 page behemoth in there😂
There are people out there that got a whole book harem.
i had severe memory issues a year back and aquired one with books i've read for like 20 pages
You're extremely good at arguing with yourself. 😂
The whole "make sure they're not too similar" bit is accurate.
I'm reading a WW2 novel and a medieval fantasy at the same time. Thinking I may even have some mental space for a contemporary romance too lol we'll see!
You watch multiple TV shows at the same time. Why can't books be the same?
Yeah I thought he was gonna say that
Also me. 👍
With streaming now, a lot of people probably don't. That was my first thought as well though.
I've started watching at least 10 different TV shows, and I bounce between them based on how I'm feeling. I'm also reading three books right now, lol.💜💜💜

Currently reading a nonfiction, a fantasy romance and a comic (well, a comic collection) and it works great. Different enough to not confuse them.
This is my situation every night, when I sit down to read a book before going to bed 😅😂
I read one book at home, read another on my phone when i am not home and read another at my university’s library.
That sounds very efficient! Where each book has it's own "place" in your life
I totally subscribe to those rules of multiple book readings! But I would also say I usually have 1 physical book, 1 audiobook on my work phone, and 1 audiobook on my personal phone, and 1 audiobook for when my kids are in the car. So 4 books at a time, and all are for different scenarios!
I enjoyed the break at the end
Not going to lie, this skit actually has good advice about reading multiple books. I do also like the idea of having a grazing book: a book you pick up and read whenever you want.
Reading multiple books is like watching multiple shows, you just want some variety now and then.
At any given time I have one novel, one nonfiction book, one short story collection, one graphic novel, and a handful of literary journals going simultaneously.
"A beginning is the time for taking the most delicate care that the balances are correct."
I actually had an idea to read all my books at the same time by reading one page from each. That idea didn't last long.

I'm reading, like, seven books at the same time😅
So you are reading none of them
We can. It is called good memory.
@@kelhussenelcosmere8145 why would you say that. Same. I had to put some on hold while I rush through one from the library...
@@kelhussenelcosmere8145 Yes And no, depends on what book I want to continue.
If schools can make us do it, we can do it ourselves too

This is literally me right now, juggling +15 books that I'm currently reading lmao.
15 books!? That is simultaneously impressive and frightening! haha
I don't understand the "not all the same genre" mantra. Right now I'm reading Lord of the Rings, The Eye of the World, and The Wise Man's Fear at the same time. It would be preposterous to confuse them, even if the plots were similar. Good books are more than story!

I'm always reading like three or four books at the same time. 😂
Fictions or nonfictions, in English or in Chinese(which is my mother tongue)
Usually, i am reading my audible book. But when I have time to sit and read, I catch up on new chapter translations for novels from wuxiaworld ( I have 4 separate stories that i do this for right now)
Exactly how I feel about that
One time I read three books at once, it was a lot and I got characters messed up 😂
reading orientalism by edward said, letters to a young poet by rilke and wuthering heights at the same time. got that right
I can't handle more than three at the same time. If there's more I usually just ignore them until I'm done with one of the main three. Each one a different genre, of course.

If i only read one its like eating the same dinner every night. I like variety so i'm reading 4. (Poetry, horror, memoir, fiction)
1:01 relatable, my friend. I recommend ya to read asoiaf and the witcher at the same time
All right, Your Honour, I'm guilty of that too! Just jail me already 😵💫🥴🤤
lol

That DUNE book did look nice
;)
I think it might work, but, unfortunately, I have adhd and can't focus on more than one book at the time.

I’ve got 8 books going on at a time right now. Some I haven’t read in weeks. I refuse to classify any of them as DNFs.
8 at the same time is impressive! The most I can do is probably 3. But just like you I also hate having a DNF put back on the shelf. So I will just slowly work through a book, unless I really hate it
Do you think you'll ever be able to finish Moby Dick? 😂😂
haha it is questionable at this point...

1:31, no. with the way he described reading two books, more like polygamy

is this an allegory for polyamory?
Guilty of this!

@miketravelsnowhere6557 A good way to get more books at a good price, but also a bad way because you need to store them somewhere. 🙂
It should be illegal
