      Çünkü biz iki sevgiliyiz;
      |Hayır, hayır, sevgili aşkım,
Sevgi ve sadakat daha uzun sürmelidir.
      Onu hemen kollarına aldı,
      Üşüyordu ve hiç ısınmıyordu;
"Çabuk, çabuk bana bir ışık getirin!
Yoksa sevgilim ölecek ve kimse görmeyecek. Ve genç kız öldüğünde,
      Onu cenaze arabasına yatırdı.
Şimdi altı genç çocuğu nereden bulabilirim?
Kalbimin aşkını mezara taşımak için mi? Altı taşıyıcıyı nereden bulabiliriz?
      Altı köylü çocuğu çok ağır.
      Altı iyi süvari olmalı,
      Sevgilimi eve taşıyacaklar.
Şimdi siyah bir elbise giymek zorundayım,
Bu benim için büyük bir üzüntü,
Büyük bir üzüntü ve çok daha fazlası,
      Yas asla bitmeyecek.

Wow! A war-weary group of soldiers, starving for entertainment and pretty girls, are all of the sudden confronted with a simple enemy girl's voice of a song of a true lover who'd do anything to save his girl. There were tears in the hard-bitten soldiers' eyes, remembering their own loved ones, as they listened and finally joined in--to this simple, yet oh so powerful melody that touched war hardened hearts in it's simplicity and honesty. Well done movie and well done scene.

Else my love dies, no one will see...
Pallbearers we need two times three,
Six farmhands they are so heavy.
It must be six of soldiers brave,

Traditional German Folk & Soldiers' Song. Originally sober in melody & lyrics, the first verse was rebranded & appropriated by the "Karneval" revellers of Cologne in 1929.
    1. Es war einmal ein treuer Husar,
Der liebt' sein Mädchen ein ganzes Jahr,
    |: Ein ganzes Jahr und noch viel mehr,
Die Liebe nahm kein Ende mehr. :|
    3. Und als der Knab' die Botschaft kriegt,
Daß sein Herzlieb am Sterben liegt,
    |: Verließ er gleich sein Hab und Gut,
Wollt seh'n, was sein Herzliebchen tut. :|
    4. Ach Mutter bring' geschwind ein Licht,
Mein Liebchen stirbt, ich seh' es nicht,
    |: Das war fürwahr ein treuer Husar,
Der liebt' sein Mädchen ein ganzes Jahr. :|
    5. Und als er zum Herzliebchen kam,
Ganz leise gab sie ihm die Hand,
    |: Die ganze Hand und noch viel mehr,
Die Liebe nahm kein Ende mehr. :|
    6. "Grüß Gott, grüß Gott, Herzliebste mein!
Was machst du hier im Bett allein?"
    |: "Hab dank, hab Dank, mein treuer Knab'!
    7. "Grüß Gott, grüß Gott, mein feiner Knab.
Mit mir wills gehen ins kühle Grab.
    |: "Ach nein, ach nein, mein liebes Kind,
Dieweil wir so Verliebte sind." :|
    8. "Ach nein, ach nein, nicht so geschwind,
    Dieweil wir zwei Verliebte sind;
    |: Ach nein, ach nein, Herzliebste mein,
Die Lieb und Treu muß länger sein. :|
    9. Er nahm sie gleich in seinen Arm,
    Da war sie kalt und nimmer warm;
    |: "Geschwind, geschwind bringt mir ein Licht!
Sonst stirbt mein Schatz, daß's niemand sicht. :|
    10. Und als das Mägdlein gestorben war,
Da legt er's auf die Totenbahr.
    |: Wo krieg ich nun sechs junge Knab'n,
Die mein Herzlieb zu Grabe trag'n? :|
    11. Wo kriegen wir sechs Träger her?
Sechs Bauernbuben die sind so schwer.
    |: Sechs brave Husaren müssen es sein,
Die tragen mein Herzliebchen heim. :|
    12. Jetzt muß ich tragen ein schwarzes Kleid,
Das ist für mich ein großes Leid,
    |: Ein großes Leid und noch viel mehr,
Die Trauer nimmt kein Ende mehr. :|

    Text in English:
Once upon a time there was a loyal hussar,
Who loved his girl for a whole year,
A whole year and much more,
There was no end to the love.
The boy went to a foreign land,
    Meanwhile his girl fell ill,
She was so sick unto death,
Three days, three nights she spoke not a word.
Three days, three nights she spoke not a word, Three days, three nights she spoke not a word,
That his heart's love was dying,
Immediately he left his goods and chattels,
To see what his sweetheart would do.
Oh, mother, bring a light quickly,
My love is dying, I can't see it,
That was indeed a faithful hussar,
Who loved his girl for a whole year.
and when he came to his sweetheart,
Quietly she gave him her hand,
The whole hand and much more,
There was no end to the love.
    "Greetings, greetings, my dearest love!
What are you doing here in bed alone?"
Thank you, thank you, my faithful son!
With me it will soon be: into the grave!"
    Greetings, greetings, my fine lad.
With me it will go into the cool grave."
No, no, no, my dear child,
Because we are so in love."
"Oh no, oh no, not so fast,
    Because we are two lovers.
Ah no, ah no, dearest beloved mine,
Our love and fidelity must be longer."
he took her straightway in his arms,
    Then she was cold and never warm;
"Quick, quick bring me a light!
Or else my darling will die, and no one will see."
And when the damsel was dead,
Then he laid her on the bier.
Where shall I get six young boys?
To carry my heart's love to the grave?
Where will we get six bearers?
Six peasant boys they are so heavy.
Six good hussars they must be,
    They'll carry my sweetheart home.
Twelve. Now I must wear a black dress,
That is a great sorrow for me,
A great sorrow and much more,
The sorrow takes no more end.

jeechs sais that this song is a "german military song". Thats not true; it's an old german folk song, ein "Volkslied", and it's a love song, ein "Liebeslied". It's very simple, and in german language: "anrührend". It's harmless; in this song and in the heart of the soldier (the "hussar") who is singing the song there is no harm. He is like a child, "mit einem reinen Herzen". That's the reason, this final szene is so "anrührend", touching.

No, "Der treue Husar" is a traditional from the 18th century and a truly sad song of a hussar whose beloved fiancée at home is badly ill and will die soon. And the faithful hussar does everything to see his girl a last time. And so she's dying in his arms.
It's a shame that this beautiful song is sung by drunks at carnival.

      Die tragen mein Herzliebchen heim.

Die englische Version: the faithfull hussar spilet u.a. Louis Armstrong.

This song is heard in the second series of Un Village Francais, when the vicious war criminal Heinrich Muller is reduced to tears on hearing it sung on the radio on the eve of his demotion from France to Russia. His tears induce his French mistress to betray her brother in law to the Germans.

A very good film. Shown on the night of November 11th (2021) on tv in the UK, where "11 -11" is Remembrance Day every year. It was also Armistice Day in Europe in 1918. Kubrick once told a New York Times journalist:
"Man isn't a noble savage, he's an ignoble savage. He is irrational, brutal, weak, silly, unable to be objective about anything where his own interests are involved - that about sums it up. I’m interested in the brutal and violent nature of man because it's a true picture of him. And any attempt to create social institutions on a false view of the nature of man is probably doomed to failure."

yes it is a song about a soldier, but it is not a war song. The brave Hussar has to leave his girl and does everything he can to get back to her when he finds out she is dying.

and the actual message is the connection of german and frech culture, the realisation by the soldiers, that there is something beyond nationalism and honor and war, that their actions are horrible tragic fights as puppets in a system, made to tourture all people, while they want to have just peace, love and freedom. the biggest horror in a worldwar is the powerless feeling of a soldier or rather Kanonenfutter.

    • @92mow
      @92mow 3 месяца назад

The French were familiar with this German folk song and knew its story so everyone started humming because they didn't speak German and everyone remembered their loved ones and burst into tears and remembered their freedom that was taken away because of the war and in the end you see the leader going to his room to get ready to go to war from which he will suffer nothing but losses
