Thank you for that brief coverage of a bow rehair. I buy "premium quality" but I still end up throwing away at least 1/3 to a 1/2 as I select the hair strand by strand (a bit of a pain) to get the best hair. When selling new (mostly student) bows I have often cleaned the hair with metho & thought maybe others may not agree with that, so thanks for that bit of advice, because I feel I need to sometimes.

I am in great awe of your tool chest. That is a work of art, and great practicality

You make it look so easy. Wish it was. Enjoyed the short video.

Very fine work done here :) I'd be very happy to have my bows rehaired at your workshop!
Probably not the best piece [by Bazzini] to show off the fine tone that the newly rehaired bow is likely to produce. A legato passage would've been nice to hear. Lovely ricochet, with the new hair gripping the strings securely though, that much is clear!

Where do you buy the tools? For example the tool you use for keeping the frog while the hair is attached? And the actual hair? Where do you buy it from? On internet is just a specific amount of hair ( to use just for 1 bow )
    Thank you!

What type of brush do you use for applying the rosin please?

Hi Henje, Lauri has made his own brush from the end of a hair hank (the 500g bundle of horse hair). Hope that helps!

Hi i have 3 questions about rehair. 1. How to measure the proper amount of hair to use in rehair ?? By quantity of hair like 120 140 160 or weight or something else ?? 2. Is it ok for a rehair to appear to have few big gap that can see thru?? I mean those new hair dont seen to close with each other. 3. Should the hair put more in one side than the other according to which side player use to tilt their bow ??
    TQ.

Hi Mr. Potato, to answer your questions, 1. Our bow specialist Lauri uses a simple hair gauge, which measures the hair by volume. The most common is manufactured by Herdim. In our workshop, a normal weight would be approximately 5g for violin bow hair. 2. We prefer a straight and evenly distributed ribbon of hair without gaps. 3. More hair can be put on the playing side, but only if the player requests.
