Our first was Border Collie - an incredible dog, sadly lost mobility at around 13-14 years. The next dog we were looking for something smart, but a pinch less demanding as were locked in the city. Essentially a slowed down version of our previous excellent dog, but not as chewie as a Golden or Retriever. Well, we got a split hybrid - all the chewing of the golden, but the energy of the border. sticks close, better nose than a border, but not as good as tight cornering at full speed. Our BC was named Henry Jones Jr. our GB is aptly named Chewbacca. Goldens are excellent, but we wanted something in between and that is what we have. We left the city for a large farm property shortly after getting our golden collie and he has all the traits as mentioned in this video. He has his swimming spots, his running spots and generally gets back home the same time as we do when out for a walk on the trails. Borders need a job, Goldens like a job. Golden Collie Cross just smile all the time. Ours does not run, but dances - During deer season we have to keep him close.
@@bhavikasharmafanpage2805 No dog should be kept in an apartment. Definitely not a Golden, or a Border Collie. The Golden will eat all your furniture out of neglect and the Collie will get aggressive - think angry German Shepard but twice as fast.. Border Collies need a job. They should be considered employees or tools rather than pets. Very sweet dogs, if they get to do a job - running and herding are the simple ones. Be prepared to walk at least 5 km every day rain or shine, they do not take to treadmills, and keeping one of these in an apartment is animal cruelty. An old Golden Retriever (adopted, not a puppy) will be fine curled up by the fire, or sleeping here and there. A puppy, you need to run that energy out of it every day, again 5 km daily (2.5 km twice a day would also work). They will eat all your shoes, your toothbrush, haircrush, basically anything that smells like you if they are left alone when young. If you need to ask such questions you do not deserve to have a dog. Cat's are fine in an apartment, so are fish. Birds should never be kept in a cage EVER (chickens and ducks on a farm is OK). All else is slavery.

Hello, I'm in Texas and LOVE!, your videos. My rescue Jack Russell BINGO died in June from bladder stones, he was my son for 8 yrs 8 mths I miss him terribly. I will be looking for another pup in about 9 months, I really love the Border Collie but being 59 and not super active I think the Labrador may be better, I can give at least 1 to 2 hours of personal buddy time but not sure if I'm able to hang with a BC. Also Golden Retriever seemed great, still a toss up! I guess the Lab like you've mentioned wasn't high on my list cause it seems everyone has one. Thank you for your love and what you and your business is doing for these beautiful creatures of God. Keep up the Great Work!!!
First off, these are not creatures of God, they are creatures of Dog (something exponentially better). Border Collies require significant work and dedication by their owners to be a good stable companion dog, without a strict regimented routine and a job for the dog, it will become aggressive out of boredom. Goldens on the other hand are less temperamental but still require a great deal of work when young unless you do not mind buying new shoes, brushes, pillows, toothbrushes, glasses, etc every week. Neither breed should be left alone for at least the first two years - you need to think of them as your baby, if wanting a house pet - so treat them loosely as such - NEVER LEAVE THEM ALONE unless properly trained by you. Trainers are expensive and while the dog may learn to listen to them, you are just a babysitter. Both breeds live for 13-20 years depending on hard their life is, so keep that in mind. Will you be able to take a rambunctious type dog out for a 5 mile run when 70? Both breeds are high social so they need you to be around - a dog that shits in the yard then comes in to sleep on the house and does not require as much attention (also one with a shorter lifespan - no offense, just pointing out the obvious) would be something along the lines of a cocker spaniel or terrier. Both the Golden and the Border will have the energy of the Jack Russell, but weigh significantly more. Good luck!
@@NealPilger on 18th of January adopted Aslan at 6 weeks 3 days old. He is a red tri Mini Border Aussie, Momma is a red tri AKC Mini Aussie and Daddy is a black AKC BORDER COLLIE. He is the best pup ever, so smart and more laid back than would have imagined. His picture is in my RUclips circle. Never had a pup so attached to me in my life. He is 8 months old, and a joy to have.
@@NealPilger wow this is such an in depth answer to the original dilemma the poster above had. Thank you! I had the same dilemma as to which dog (best creatures) would be better suited for me. Based on all the info I have gathered so far, I think a Golden would be better suited for me. I would love to spend the time with my dog, which I will but sometimes I just want a more chill dog and have them be content with just hanging and laying low for a day or two. I think Goldens fit the bill perfectly. I have ruled out some of the more energetic dogs such as doodles as well for the same reason.
I have a border collie. He is 1,5 years old and he is is the laziest dog I’ve met lmao he is more of a couchpotato than a working dog and that is perfect for our family ♥️
Yea I know a lot of people say there BC can be lazy. They adapt to your living environment. Just make sure you take them for a walk once a day and give them some attention. If you can’t walk them because of whatever reason everyday, then just play a little game of Fetch etc out your back yard. These RUclips channels just scare people. I actually read the whole working dog thing is being bred out of them because so many average families are getting BC’s
Had 2 Border Collies, now have a Border/Golden Mix. Wonderful dog. Depends on the the human for almost all dogs. If your dog is an asshole, it is probably you.

Thank you, just the information I was looking for. Both are great dogs but I think for me GRs are better suited.
Fantastic video.

Great comparison.

You have not given the dog the life it deserves then. At 1.5 to 10 years they need at least 5 km runs daily. Perhaps yours is being overfed?
NICE one!
I have boder collie and 3 puppies
Seems border collie is better right Fernir?
My dog is a mix of the two 😂
So its normal that my almost 1 years old border dont quite like beeing touch by strangers ? He start reacting snaping at people when they pet him
it’s probably cause you didn’t socialize them while they were younger
You have not properly trained your dog, Get a fish or a hamster. Dog cruelty is a crime.
