It's very pleasant to see and listen to this very detailed description of such an important art work.
At first glance one will think Michaelangelo Caravaggio is the artist and yet is Iordanio's work!

Insightful discussion of a fascinating painting. (And thanks to the video editor for eschewing the annoying background music that has marred some earlier presentations.)

Ovid’s Metamorphoses is not a collection of short stories, but rather a highly innovative long poem, a quasi-epic of interconnected and nested narratives. It was widely read from the point of its composition onwards, including the Middle Ages-it’s been called “the other Bible,” because it was so frequently cited by artists and writers in that period.

7:42 why would that be surprising? Giordano's is much more realistic, which to a society before cameras, would be appreciated much more since it takes much more skill. Also, Giordano's painting depicts a story that is much more interesting than Ruben's.
