Subaru: We Know Our Market! In case people are unaware, Subaru was the first auto company to start actively advertising to an LGBTQ+ base. This was back in the ‘90s. They had done a lot of market research, & realized that 1 of the 5 biggest groups buying their vehicles were lesbians. Love companies that were ahead of the curve! Thank you so much for this segment - please have Jenny travel to all the bars! 💖
"Flannelgans" 😆 Jenny knocked this out of the park. The Irish lesbian community have a meet up group called Running Amach, pronounced 'amok', where "amach" is the Irish/Gaelic word for 'out'. I don't think there's a lesbian bar in the whole country though.
So awesome that these ladies can talk openly and share laughs with the country. Progress. Proof that Trump and his followers didn’t succeed at completely killing understanding. When I went to college in the 70’s, gay nights started at some Boston bars so those who felt they had to hide their identities could at least have a safe haven one night a week.
Haha I went to those bars too. They were the only places women could go for a girl's night out where we could have fun with each other and not have guys pestering us.
This was such a delightful little episode! Couldn't stop smiling the whole time. 😄 I got to say, even if it is causing these bars to disappear, I'm glad the reason behind the disappearance is such a positive one, that it's cause they're more accepted in society today. :)

Maybe if any LGBTQ societies/non-profits bought the places of previously prominent/famous bars? Maybe they could do something like it.

My neighbor is a teacher who happens to be gay. She doesn’t feel like she can tell anyone at work because she’s working on her doctorate to become an administrator. The county she works in is so racist and close minded. It’s very sad.
"Tone down" in what way? Also in a different way that everybody at work hides their quirks? For instance, I am black woman. I don't always wear my afro. I style my hair in more corporate neutral ways. That's me 'toning down' for the corporate world.

The way she described the let down of the mask we put on is so on point. I'm bi and sometimes I went because I was in the mood to date women but often I went just to be in a place with only women - outside of a religious environment. It's so freeing, god, I would never have known that peace if I'd never been in one. I miss them - none that I know of in my current town and I'm too sick to go anywhere now anyway. Sure hope they don't go the way of the dodo.
Haven’t been in Henrietta Hudson in years. But walking down memory lane watching this segment was a delight. In the 1990’s the Hudson Ave, lower 7th Ave were chuck full of different Lesbian bars. Depending on your particular expression as a lesbian (ultra butch to lipstick lesbian) would be which bar you would go to. Other shows like Colbert and the Daily Show have (pre-pandemic) done on-location segments while being in-studio with audiences, so I don't see why the return of audiences would preclude Meyers from doing the same.
I don't drink and know ZIP about drinks... but I would open a lesbian bar in a SECOND if Jenny would come in for a drink! But seriously, the lack of woman-centric queer spaces is depressing. I wish Lisa the best with her new bar... the decor is amazing! And since I don't drink, I would love other late-night lesbian spaces like a coffee house/tea house only open from like 2pm on. My Mom came out in 1971, we would often go to the Cricket Club, a lesbian bar, on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon. I remember when my mom would go out at night, a bunch of girls would stop by and everyone would get hammered before going to the bar. because it was cheaper than drinking at the bar....more sodas and miniatures.
I am not a gay woman, but I understand the need for a social setting, away from the threats of men. Their intimidating presence leads to constant tension in the public sphere. Gay people need their own save spaces and also non-gay females need safe spaces free from the dominating male presence.
I understand what you are saying but you haven’t been to a lesbian bar, have you. If you have pretty eyes and a pulse, the unattached women can be just as aggressive. Don’t be surprised if their Truck is pulling a uhaul on your second date.

The most fun I've ever had in my life was at a gay bar.... I went there for a drag show ( to raise money for AIDS research) with my boyfriend and he stood out like a sore thumb... because he was six foot six... we're not gay and we had a blast. !!!!!
My family came to visit and we went to drag brunch in July. It was awesome! I have not laughed so hard since the pandemic started. There were nine of us and we were all in happy tears!

The entertainers were of many different races and backgrounds. My daughter got called out before the show even started because her roommates mom is friends with one of the queens. My nephew got “danced upon” before they found out he was only 17. My 13 year old niece happens to be black and PR. She’s struggling with who she is and we didn’t tell her where we were going. She cried the most happy tears. My lesbian neighbors went with. I accept all people as long as they are not murderers or child predators. I can’t wait to go back!
I moved to NYC June 1999. Henrietta Hudson was the first lesbian bar I went to in NYC. Meow Mix was another, but it closed. After 20yrs in NYC, I moved back to Houston, my hometown. Pearl Bar is THE lesbian bar here & it's fantastic! If your "lesbian correspondent" travels, make sure you go to Pearl. When I lived in San Diego, we went to The Flame in Hillcrest. Don't know if it's still open.
There's a scripted musical podcast by the creators of "Lez Hang Out" called "The Flame" about a fictional lesbian bar in danger of getting shut down. They chose the name by looking up names of actual lesbian bars that had closed. So maybe it was named after that one!

My first Lesbian bar was in the SF Castro. I drank myself into oblivion. Came to w/ lovely ladies caring for me. Then we danced, so open & such a safe space. I even got a phone number!
The thing I've noticed that past few years is how many straight people are going to gay bars. Everybody hates it, especially when it's like groups of straight girls going out for birthdays or bridesmaid's showers to the gay clubs. Like no this is not a zoo, if you come with friends fine but otherwise you have 20-30 times as many choices of clubs and bars to go to.
Here is how lesbian dating goes: Step 1 meet a lesbian Step 2 immediately move in together Step 3 immediately talk about getting married and adopting at least two babies Step 4 break up 5 months later

I moved to NYC June 1999. Henrietta Hudson was the first lesbian bar I went to in NYC. Meow Mix was another, but it closed. After 20yrs in NYC, I moved back to Houston, my hometown. Pearl Bar is THE lesbian bar here & it's fantastic! If your "lesbian correspondent" travels, make sure you go to Pearl. When I lived in San Diego, we went to The Flame in Hillcrest. Don't know if it's still open.
The flame in San Diego closed. Our only lesbian bar is Gossip Grill. It’s a nice spot.
There's a scripted musical podcast by the creators of "Lez Hang Out" called "The Flame" about a fictional lesbian bar in danger of getting shut down. They chose the name by looking up names of actual lesbian bars that had closed. So maybe it was named after that one!

My first Lesbian bar was in the SF Castro. I drank myself into oblivion. Came to w/ lovely ladies caring for me. Then we danced, so open & such a safe space. I even got a phone number!
The thing I've noticed that past few years is how many straight people are going to gay bars. Everybody hates it, especially when it's like groups of straight girls going out for birthdays or bridesmaid's showers to the gay clubs. Like no this is not a zoo, if you come with friends fine but otherwise you have 20-30 times as many choices of clubs and bars to go to.
