Colors on Nikon Z6 are beautiful in my opinion ! My favorite camera at this point!! I have tried many different full frame cameras during the years and Nikon , even though is not perfect , still the one that I use almost on a daily basis especially for B roll shots.
It was nice to see that romantic relationship between photographer and the camera and how that connection reminds you old memories...
I bought a Z6II two weeks ago with the 50mm 1.8 and it’s a fantastic camera, with the FTZ my old F mount 70-200mm f4 works better than on my DSLR. The 50mm 1.8 is bloody sharp! I’m still getting used to the autofocus options but they work great. Filming is a simple flick of a switch and the quality is awesome. Great camera and I am excited to use it even more. Great vid…too bad you didn’t get to keep it. 😎👍🏻

I really like how it looks, especially the shots with the 50mm lens!
I use it everyday, Faruk. Just like you I have a past with Nikon and I love their ergonomics and the IQ. I switched to Fuji and Sony when I saw their lack of interest in mirrorless. Now I am back with my first love and expect greatness from them. Like you mentioned there are some quirks to deal with but they just make me remember “There is no perfect camera” right? Great review, my friend. Hope I’ll get to meet you someday around Venice or LA and exchange some lines in Romanian and Turkish (decent one, obviously)🤣😂
I gotta say, watching your videos is always the best waste of my time ever! I learn so much and the production quality is the best on the internet.... not just RUclips! I have used your advice on a few items and now vlog my motorcycle adventures and created my own youtube channel. Someday I hope I can learn how to create dramatic and beautiful content like yours, but you will always be the master. Keep up the great work!
Thank you for the great review. I made the switch from Nikon to Sony last year and I am very pleased. I still love the color science of my old Nikon photos. But my workflow required more video work. So that is why I left Nikon.
Im still on a D750 - Im not sure about the Z cameras because of the AF. The only Sony I would consider is the A7S3 but its a huge price increase. I was hoping the A74 would be released as that probably would be just right for me as my work is hybrid.
I don’t want to be roasted but I had read that they have that 30 min limitation because of taxes? Like if it shoots over 30 minutes then it is considered as professional equipment for cinema. Maybe I got it wrong idk.
Hi IPhonedo, really a great and balanced video/review. I especially find your beauty shots amazing! There are some points though, which don't align with my experience as a Nikon Z Shooter for almost 3 years:
1. What you mean by lag about the EVF is probably the IBIS doing it's job. You can put it into the sport mode, to stop horizontal stabilisation. Or you probably tested with the 24-70 F4 S "kit" lens in a low light situation...
2. When a HDMI Recorder (NinjaV) is connected and 10bit mode is applied, there is a 6ms lag.
3. It gave me chills when you say the EVF of the Z6 II is like the one of the Sony A7c. Couple days ago I was on a photowalk with a friend which is using the Sony A7R4. Looking through the EVF of the Sony, which has better specs on paper, we booth could agree that the Nikon Z7 II EVF, which is the same as Z6 II, is brighter and more real looking/sharper. Same for the Display of the Z7/Z6 II.

I upgraded my Nikon D3300 to Z6 after 5 years, and I’m in love with it! Was deciding between Z6 and A7III. What pushed me to nikons side is glass! I can’t afford to blow 2-3k€ on a lens. But 1.8 glass on sony or canon are usually built worse than 1.4 glass. Or 3rd party lenses are heavy/not sealed. Whereas I pay more than usual for 1.8 glass on nikon, but it’s excellent! And weathersealed, I love shooting in rain/snow.
Yea, there are some shortcomings to cameras, but they’re nothing major imo. But by the time Nikon will release a killer camera, I’ll have amazing, small lenses to pair it up with.
I think it produced footage that I wouldn’t have been able to tell the difference from the Sony’s. But the points you mentioned are critical as they hinder an efficient workflow, something they should address through firmware. They have been more responsive than I’ve ever seen Nikon in the past with the Z cameras. I use a Z5 for medium/long shots (I use my iPhone 12 Pro Max for wide) and it works very well, the crop factor in 4K on that camera being a perk for my use. I do like the quick lever and that it saves settings so flipping back and forth from stills to video is extremely easy on the Z body. The weather resistance is also very good including the primes. I’ve already thoroughly soaked it in thunderstorms in the southeast and it doesn’t bother it a bit. Something I’ve only dared do in the past with a Pentax camera and their sealed lenses. The 24-200 being probably the best of its type and completely weather sealed, not just a rear rubber gasket. Not many seal their primes like the Z lineup which is a big plus for Nikon.

I kindly want to request you to add some tiny -pop on- screen "notes" to emphasize and point out the information which mentioned atm. Just an example from this video, when you said 6.5k $ sony and 1.9k $ nikon, those numbers could appear for a sec. I follow you since 2013 and I know how hard you work on those videos, i just wanted to make this point because especially when you have to give multiple information, the numbers and also those numbers' comparison would be more tangible/ easy to perceive.

Nice overview - I use the Z6II for wedding photography but don't use it much yet for video. It sounds like if they got rid of the 30 min limit and added internal NLOG you would be ready to use this camera. As a Nikon user, I agree with what you were saying - it really is a Nikon and feels like such. I still think it is the best buy on the market currently for $1999 by far.

I bought my first Nikon Z in 2018. It was the Z6. I upgraded to the Z7 II in January. I love the ergonomics of the Z cameras. The S-Line lenses are so sharp.
I wish catalyst browse was integrated into Final Cut Pro… it’s too much of a hassle with the 2 step process right now. I use the a7c and only used catalyst once.

I have It for a couple of days already. I love image quality, building, buttons, ergonomics, great display. 30min record limit is not a dealbreaker for me, but I hate that is no notification for recording and witch is off my mind is that isn’t any information how many minutes of record do you have while you recording a video…why?!?!?
What are the lights you are using for your studio background? The bokeh looks amazing!
I have the Z6 II and several Z lenses and it is a wonderful photography camera. It is really exciting to see how this Z system develops and I suspect a lot of the fine tuning is coming to the system via firmware updates, as they have already done a few. The video on this is good, but not great when you compare to the Sony A7S...the focus on that is just amazing. Can't wait to see what the future holds for the Z ecosystem.
Nice video as usual. I am thinking about getting a Z6ii to finally replace, or be alongside my 10 years old D800. Nikon will no longer service nor repair my trusty D800, which has a loose power button and missing weather sealing gaskets (fallen off through wear and tear). The good thing is that my lenses can still be used with the FTZii adaptor. Giving it very serious thoughts.

Great review as always and I feel the same. Nikon image quality is so good but for video, my Z50 is the most inconvenient camera I own. For photos, it’s fantastic. Unfortunately I do more stuff with video than photo and the workflow has me looking at other ecosystems. I don’t want to switch but nikon feels a few steps behind in video features.
Also, regarding the 30 minute cutoff: Aside from DSLR mirror sensors not really made for longer video recording, I’ve read that it’s something to do with taxes. If it’s over 30 minutes of video recording it is considered a video camera as well as a photo camera and the import tax is higher. I’m not an import/export pro so I have no idea if that’s even a thing anymore or how much that actually plays a role in the current 30 minute limit but for older models a few years ago that was a topic often discussed.

Was there a tracking level option that would have snapped to your face better from the background? because it was sticking pretty good when focused on both.
Isn't there a tally light in front for recording? I believe there's an audio beep when start/stopping recording.
The COLORS man... Sooo beautiful and I think so much better, out of the box than Sony. I switched to Nikon from Sony and although there are some drawbacks the colors man simply compensate for all. If you use it with external recorder then footage is at another lever.
I used to have a Nikon film camera …still love the more edgy look and feel of Nikon gear

I wouldn’t buy Nikon until AF is equal to Sony A7 series and lenses more affordable … F1.8, 35mm is AUD $1400 😳
nikon,, z6 1 ....is my go to camera i made many videos with and it's good but just ..... the focus is not there. it was a school project thing so,,, i maualy did about 60% of the shoot
i hope nikon do better with there new cameras
but when it comes to photos (i dont do sports photography) it just , so great and i just love the 50 1.8...that lens is a beauti i do street, nature, landscape, portrait with it and i love it
if nikon give us a z6 3 with better focus i will upgrade

I’ve been using a canon 80d for the last 5 years, I didn’t know that cameras made a beep noise when recording. If some could let me know which cameras even do that I’d really appreciate it. I actually just bought a monitor so I knew when I was recording, it turns out you lose the touchscreen ability

I could see it searching for focus a slight bit even in your studio shots. (Maybe don't use auto focus when you are at a fixed distance in the studio.?) Anyone else notice that?
Seems to be the same every review I watch - if your in the Nikon system consider buying a Z, if your not then maybe not. Such a shame. I do agree about catalyst browse its very useful.
Im torn as a Nikon hybrid shooter wether to keep buying Nikon or move to a A7S3.

Selamlar Faruk D800, D850 ve arkasından Z7 kullacısı olarak incelemeni beğendim tabi ki herkesin eksik gördüğü yanları farklıdır ben tanıtım filmleri çektiğim için 30dk çekim ile sınırlandırılması beni rahatsız etmiyor. Stabilizede elektronik olanı da açman özellikle arkaplanda görüntü bükülmeleri çok sebep oluyor o yüzden ben sensör stabilizasyonu ile yetiniyorum. FLAT çekim standardını seviyorum LOG a yakın bir avantaj sunuyor hemde 800 ISO ya çıkma durumunda kalmıyorsun. 50mm 1.8 Lens bende de var ve bir harika her diyaframda hemde. Asıl harika olan lenslerin bir çoğunun dışı aynı şekilde dizayn edilmiş bende 14-30 f4, 24-70 F4, 50 f1.8 var ve gimbal da neredeyse tekrar ayar yapmama gerek kalmıyor.

About the 30 minute limit. It is European import rules that are the reason for it. Future models will probably not have it because EU removed that ridiculous extra import tax for videocameras ... But NO camera manufacture can take it away from older models, even if it is possible technically, it will be impossible economically. If they do it they have to pay that old import tax for every imported camera already sold in Europe ... :(
Don't use the electronic image stabilization, it's not good for vlogging! The IBIS is pretty good though.
Is that what was causing the wobbling it was distracting it was that bad.
@@markshirley01 Yes. When just using IBIS there's still some shake, but it's much more natural (but significantly smoother than no stabilization at all).
