    We visited there in October 2022. Had to go back for a second look during our Tuscany holiday. It truly is magical.

    Most tower were not torn down by themlselves or Italians. It was Americans' carpet bombing during WW2 that torn down many of them. Duh.

      Not true, according to various sources: " San Gimignano was bombarded during ten days by the Americans. The bell of the Torre Grossa was destroyed, a house on the central square and part of the cathedral collapsed." Not even one tower was destroyed by USA, only a bell, and parts of a few other buildings. But yes, it is terrible anything was targeted.
