I just 3 other tutorials on this technique, but each featured a considerably wider folded leaf. It took me all 3 videos for the method to finally sink in. It looks a lot trickier doing such a narrow version like your earrings. For me, that's only because it's not as easy to see the shape develop with only 2 rows.

Connect same colors short end to long end. If you see at 14:00 how she twists them to line them up.
