Great video. The early game was played by many men of Delahanty's temperament. Ty Cobb, who was from a fairly genteel background, was known to have been met with disapproval from his father over wanting to play baseball. Rowdiness and brawling were actually recommended by many doctors of the time as being positive for young men's development.
Really enjoyed learning about Big Ed and his escapades. Unfortunately drinking makes you do some crazy things and to go into Niagra Falls is a tough way to pass.

The game was structured and played so differently; players wanted to WIN. I've read of some umpires getting physical as well.
Excellent work! Oh the crazy stories from that day!
Players even back back then had some complexities!
Fascinating background on this baseball player.
Seemed like an extraordinary guy (save his temper).
Great and really interesting story! Thanks for showing this.
Hi Greg, yes there were some wild stories back then. I love to uncover them!
Great info, Fort Erie is a mere 45 minutes from my home, had no clue about this...well done!!
There was a pub in south Jersey named after him, but shut down not long ago.
Fantastic video!
Thanks Rick! I love doing these sorts of stories.

It's a shame that happened - he had a bunch of good years ahead, both in and out of the game.
Exceptional video! Excellent story telling…and what a story it is. Have a great weekend man
Appreciate it, David - enjoy the holiday!
Nice video. Weird story. It was definitely a different era.
Can you imagine something like that happening in today's world?
probably mugged in his drunken state and pushed in by the guy who says he saw him walking out on the bridge.
Sounds about right - wonder how different the theories would be if he had been a bit more level.
He was probably too drunk and fell. Or the conductor pushed him and he fell into the water. I'm going with drunk
When I first heard of this story, the conductor scenario sprung to mind. Drinking does make one act foolish!
