I’ve been listening to this song for around 5 years. It’s my favorite thing Dan has ever done and it blows my mind he didn’t think it was good enough for official release. It sounds like it was written in a moment of pure inspiration and he was too embarrassed to accept how perfect it was.
I remember literally crying in the kitchen at something like 2 AM when I found this song again, after having lost it for years and having been unable to remember the correct title or artists name, only really remembering this one part of the song. I love this song soo soo much. Anytime I hear it nowadays I remember how relieved and happy I felt in that night in the kitchen. How the song was every bit as good as I remembered & more!
*Man I love Dan. Might be my single favorite musician alive today. From the early Department of Eagles demos, to every song he wrote or co-wrote with Grizzly Bear, to his solo albums and the random b side type tunes he has thrown out on to the ether. Therapy car noise; Colorado, Sleeping Ute, Up on high, shadow on the frame, in ear park, on a neck on a spit, little brother, golden mile, practice room sketch 4/tired hands. BANGER AFTER BANGER AFTER BANGER. THANK YOU MR ROSSEN!*
Discovered this hidden gem 15 minutes ago and have listened to it five times since. Thanks for posting. I can't believe this didn't make it on shields or the EP in this primitive form, it's perfect as is.
You lost your mind I was miles away I was miles away Or did you find it ? They were not around Not a soul for miles When you returned Couldn't say the word Couldn't speak a sound When will you come home? Not until I'm done Not until my name drowns in the dust So, you're not coming back So, you're never coming back Well, you're easily forgot Find the words to your last bitter song And get it off your mind Get it off your mind Raging on past these dark, busted towns Crazy down the line Still, they line the road What's to say this is all we got left? Let it lay a while Let it lie and rest down in the dust No, they're not coming back No, they're never coming back They're not easily forgot
This could have easily been on a Grizzly Bear LP and we'd all be saying it was one of, if not the best, song on the album, and no one would ever know it was only going to be a throwaway demo. Maybe we'd be a little suspicious it wasn't a bit longer and there's no Ed on it.
They always use those weird things that look like jellyfish in their live performances. This is a good song though thanks for uploading it!! How did you find out about it?

I discovered this song so many years ago now and I keep coming back to it over and over. I couldn’t possibly agree with you more. It’s pure gold.
Pro trick : you can watch movies at flixzone. Me and my gf have been using it for watching all kinds of movies during the lockdown.
@Aries Nathaniel yea, I've been using flixzone} for since november myself :)

This guy has some gems in his back catalogue. The reverb is heavy with this one.
It's just not physically possible for me to dislike Daniel Rossen's music. Can't do it.

Every single second of this song is perfect.
It really is, I wish he’d release more
You lost your mind
I was miles away
I was miles away
Or did you find it
?
They were not around
Not a soul for miles
When you returned
Couldn't say the word
Couldn't speak a sound
When will you come home?
Not until I'm done
Not until my name drowns in the dust
So, you're not coming back
So, you're never coming back
Well, you're easily forgot
Find the words to your last bitter song
And get it off your mind
Get it off your mind
Raging on past these dark, busted towns
Crazy down the line
Still, they line the road
What's to say this is all we got left?
Let it lay a while
Let it lie and rest down in the dust
No, they're not coming back
No, they're never coming back
They're not easily forgot
probably one of the best song I've ever heard.
