Straightforward question from a Marillion fan, who has yet to purchase the new album! Could someone give me an unbiased opinion on how good or otherwise it really is? I wasn't a big fan of 'F.E.A.R', and found 'Murder Machines strangely lacking, so does it reach the dizzy heights of 'Marbles', or is it merely another average effort? Your honesty would be much appreciated!
How lucky I was to discover by chance Marillion in '85 also, during my military national service in Germany. I never felt such a emotion so deeply until today.. Marillion's music is a jewel in my heart forever and the rest of my life.
The thing about Marillion, which cannot be said for every band that has been in my life so long (31 years and counting) is that I have always felt I was part of their family, and they are all brothers who genuinely love each other. And, this has always been and continues to be reflected in their music and words. Wonderful.
This band are like a fine wine, getting better and better with age. Steve H really getting the message over with his vocal, great times to be a Marillion fan
Not often I cry the first time I hear a song, but you've got this one spot on. These two years, we've been so afraid to show the people we love that we actually do, and there has been such a shortage of hugs, so many people that have gone without physical contact för far too long. And so much anxiety that one might have, unintentionally, have spread this horrible virus to someone vulnersble.
An emotional time for me as my father has just passed away but i love this music that and the video together had me in tears really hit a nerve which is exactly what i want from marillion well done guys excellent stuff
I think the instrumental is pretty good, particularly another top notch guitar piece from Rothery, with the rhythm section of Ian and Pete delivering as always. You can tell Hogarth has put his heart into his writing and singing for this album, as he always does. I think the way that he takes everyday topics and makes them sound beautiful is always inspiring. Overall, a very good song and I’m even more excited for the album than I already was. Love your work lads!
The whole album "An Hour Before It's Dark" is a true modern Master-Piece (yet again, as FEAR was also one!). Thank you so much Steve, Steve, Peter, Mark and Ian. The choir adds something sublime and Rothery's guitar tone and phrases are fantastic... It's pure Marillion territory and still after each album you keep evolving. Thank you for the great music!
How is it that when the times become more challenging and sinister the music gets better and better? Thank you so much Marillion for putting on the light in these days. So glad you guys stuck with us all these years and never gave in to cynicism. In a sense true to the writer of the SIlmarillion who had seen the worst mankind can do and went on to give us the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings.
Another album that I am going to have to purchase. Great song. I had sort of given up hope on Marillion when Fish left the band. As good as he was Hogarth puts so much more emotion into his songs. To the effect that if you don’t quite get the lyrics, his emotion clarifies what he is trying to get across. Marillion is quickly climbing up my favourite band of all time. Thanks for this
Just had the same ideas...though in German :-) ...doesn´t matter. Had the chance to see Marillion playing a concert in Birmingham (Aston) in 1989 when Steve H turned up on stage and it didn´t take a minute to feel and see ...that he was the right guy to follow Fish
Marillion, a melhor, fantástica, sensacional, maravilhosa, eternamente Amada...meu grande Amor musical!❤ Amei a canção, estou todo arrepiado, coração acelerado...lágrimas de felicidades escorrem pelo meu rosto e transbordam o meu coração.🎶🎸❣
Can't wait for the album. The journey you guys are on is EPIC, I'm just glad I'm on it with you. 🙂 I've been a fan since 1985, you have always been, and will continue to be, my fave band.
@@widarek1 fish wybrał solową karierę i jak mu to wychodzi każdy słyszy.Ja podziwiam zespół że mimo tego że stracili główny filar nie poddali się i tworzą dalej od dobrych kilkudziesięciu lat
TEMAZO, TEMAZO, TEMAZO. Simply Marillion, simply the best. Five together, great. Rothery with his band? Great. Kelly's Marathon? Great. Five musicians with capital letters.
This band is sooooo vastly underrated. The musicianship of all the members is just outstanding. I saw them when they first performed with H at the Park West in Chicago...many, many, many years ago...performing Holidays in Eden. Was very fortunate to see them again a number of years ago at a super small venue (Arcadia Theatre) in St. Charles, IL. Wish they would come to the Chicago area more often. Can't wait for this CD to come out. It sounds like it will be another good one.
Gents, a brilliant track. I’ve been a U.S. fan since 1982. You and Genesis have provided the soundtrack to my life. A great message and this record sounds only like itself. Spectacular!
I've given this my usual 100 listens before passing comment and it's now burnt into my brain. Can't wait to see how this fits into the album as a whole but with this and "Be Hard on Yourself" I think we're in for an absolute gem of an album. We've spent the past two years living in fear, guilt and apprehension and this album is going to go a long way to exorcise those demons.
Je regrette dans ma vie de ne pas avoir découvert Marillion plus tôt. Sagesse, spiritualité, toujours des bonnes vibes qui nourri l'âme. Bravo à vous Marillion ❤❤❤

Elicited same emotions as when I first viewed Fish's Garden of Remembrance. It's an exclusiveness we all share isn't it? We have all been united, for decades by the power of Steve, Fish, Pete, Steve, Mark, and Ian. I think there is no better "club" to be a part of. Thank you gentlemen... you should be knighted.
This is their 20th studio release and Marillion just keeps doing the impossible, while other bands might be lucky to create 4 or 5 for really great records throughout their entire career these guys just keep doing it over and over. That is the MAGIC of MARILLION nobody else even comes close!
Loving the fact that Hogarth's voice seems to be defying age, unlike so many of his contemporaries. Marillion is a rock in our lives, over 20 years without a line-up change & given how the world is treating us these days we all need rocks to hold on to. Thanks, guys.
Speechless! I am addicted to this song. Steve Rothery‘s subtle, intriguing guitar work, Steve Hogarth‘s ripe voice in full fruition, the rest of the band at perfect 10. I am at a loss of words.
Well they've done it again. Been listening to the whole album over and over since its release. This is why i love this band. They've delivered. Rothery's solos are the best, real goosebump material. The whole thing, just amazing. Love you guys.
He tried not to, but ignoring it turned out to be impossible. He always has wrote lyrics about the world around him (even in the Seasons End/Holidays in Eden era), so it was always going to be a futile pursuit.
Thank you for all the great feedback so far:)
Does the fade in on full blast mean that this is part of a suite?

Can't be a surprise that it's all positive of course 😉

Marillion - part of the soundtrack of my life. Thank you!
Instant goosebumps and tears. What a masterpiece.
I find it amazing that Steve Hogarth's voice is still very similar to what it has been 30 years ago. Another great Marillion work. Thank you!
Even better I think.
It's far more gutteral than it used to be IMO
A poetic treatment of an everyday (literally) topic. Well done.
