“My best ideas always come when i focus on the bigger picture, (the concept of the project) instead of the concept of an individual song. That's pretty much what happened with Freeformdreadlockchampion I was listening to Akala speak about how hip hop culture influences people. These were feelings I had for a while but couldn't and didn't want to put them in words until after hearing Akala speak on it (in a Vladtv interview) the song just wrote itself.
All the ideas about the social and psychological influence of music I would lose myself thinking about and working through in my head. So to summarise the actual song itself, the first verse is context about hip hop, what it is and where it is now, how the game works and where i think it'll be in the future based on these points.
The second verse is me explaining how i feel about the state of hip hop, and basically me saying people can talk about whatever they want but they should also be held prepared to be held accountable by those that stay true to the artform which is kind of lost in todays landscape”
