After you have the shapes, you must select all shapes and go to Object - compound path - make, and then You import the Image and place the shape in front of the Image and then - make clipping mask. If you save the project and you have an error maybe it,s from the Image If is to large or export in another way.

You can create shape and place image inside of each shape created. Add shape in front of the image and click on clipping mask in properties panel.
im getting an error it saying that the shape is complex
