- Do you have what it takes to become a Coast Guard Aviation Survival Technician/Rescue Swimmer?
If you meet all the physical fitness standards displayed in the video (also listed below), you can qualify for the Coast Guard’s civilian-to-AST/Rescue Swimmer program, currently known as ANNEX-X.
The following are the MINIMUM fitness requirements to qualify for the program.
1.) Push-ups - 40 within 2 minutes
2.) Sit-ups - 40 within 2-minutes
3.) Side Plank - 30 seconds
4.) Pull-ups (full extension) - 3 consecutive within 1 minute
5.) Run - 1.5 miles within 12 minutes
6.) Swim - 450 meter or 500 yard swim within 12 minutes
All of the qualifiers are completed consecutively and are based on strict body positioning and exacting details, so ask your recruiter for a detailed Physical Fitness Assessment sheet.
You will be tested at the start of basic training by an active duty AST.
It is a pass/fail test, so bring your ‘A’ game.

I’m 14 a freshman and a female and this is a high passion of mine. Going to train and do research early that way when I’m older I can try my best to get in. Thanks for the vid!
Progress?
You could be one of the very very few female rescue swimmers. Keep your mind to it and you definitely got it
You could do it. Never fucking ever let someone say what u can or cant do. Everyone can some just have to go harder then others to get to the spot. However the ppl who have it harder learn more on the way… trust me😂
Well your 16 now hope everything is going good for you and best luck for the next 2 years
Awesome, I just started talking to the recruiter and have every intention of becoming an AST
How has it gone so far?
update ?
So how’s it going?
Progress?
talked to my recruiter going to the office soon to get ready, been thinking about AST. This video is going to help me if i decide to go for AST
Let’s hope I make it when I am old enough to join.
why are the minimums so low compared to what is actually required of an a school candidate?
Water polo player love the water, will be a coast guard swimmer rescue no matter what 😎💯,Love my country
I miss my CG days. 20 years goes way too fast. Semper Paratus!
My dream. I’m over weight and been hittin the gym and studying the asvab.
You got it! Just keep pushing!
Keep going man. When I wanted to join the coast guard I had bad scores on practice tests, was over weight, cand couldn't do 10 push ups or run half a mile. Studied hard for 2 months. worked hard and since then I have passed the asvab along with boot camp. I even have been going to airstation astoria to train with ASTs while I wait for my flight physical and to get my name on the list. Im fortunate to have a command that supports me going this rate. I still have a long way to go but i dont intend on stoping. Keep working and you can make it 💪
@@FireSidePhoenix that really means the most to me thank you
@@FireSidePhoenix hey brother. Any idea on how long the wait is? I’m currently a senior in high school and with graduation around the corner I’d like to know the wait times.
@@jimmyhernadez6185 currently the wait time is a 12 to 15 months not including the time it takes to do a flight physical. When getting to a new unit you will have to either spend 4 months their before you can put your name on a list or be a fully qualified member at what ever unit you go to
After AST school (and all of the other qualifications - post AST school) are you ever assigned to a permanent station? Or will you move stations every 3-4 years?
You always transfer every 4 or so years. sometimes you can get an extension for 1 or 2 year but eventually you transfer.
I have a question: How do you count the push-ups in the Coast Guard during boot camp?
Is it 01, 02, 03, counting up to 40? or is it just *up, down*?
or you count to 10 and then again always to 10?
Just curious 😅
You don’t count you just do the pushups and sit ups. A CC or instructor will count them for you
Chest has to touch the block
Are you wearing googles in training?
i was told that the qualifications are different in order to qualify for annex x. (1.5mi in 12 minutes, 50 push-ups, 60 sit-ups, 15 pull-ups, 15 chin-ups, 500 yard swim in 8 minutes) is this the pt test once you already qualify, or does it vary for different recruits?
Good day! This is the qualifications to start the program. Same one provided to everyone.
@@gocoastguardto be an AST?
What is the ASVAB score required to become an aviation survival technician? Also, do you go straight from boot camp and then go to AST school?
If you look on the USCG website it will lay out the qualifiers and details there. You likely will not go straight to AST school out of bootcamp! Good luck!
Quick question, does wearing glasses DQ you from this job?
You have to use contact lenses. So technically yes.
So no more 4 25yard underwater swims?
This is just to qualify for the program. Requirements at A-School are different.
@@gocoastguard what are the tests when in school?
Hello, for the swim portion are flip turns required?
No, not required
@@justinbeckham9008it's a pool test to test your basic swimming fitness/ability. And you can definitely flip with fins if you are inclined to.
Only 3 pull ups?
Now its 5 pull ups and 5 chinups
No way this is the standard
Wayyyyyyy too easy! Recruit me
