I purchased the 14-30mm lens on the first day when it released in 2019.
Yet, its glory didn't even last a year, as the Nikon Z 14-24mm f2.8 released soon after a year.
I waited another two years to upgrade to the expensive lens in Feb 2023.
This time, I want to compare these two lenses to see which one comes out on top.
Aside from the weight and maximum aperture. With pretty similar features, you might confused about which one is suitable for you.

I think both have there purpose for different situations, I have both and use the 14-30 when I want to use filters and pack small and the 14-24 when I'm in low light situations. both have similar weight so it's more about using the right tool for the right moment. both are amazing.

James, thank you for this excellent comparison, and BTW, your images are gorgeous! As a landscape, wildlife and product photographer, I shoot the Z7 and Z8 with the NIkkor Z 14-30 f/4 S lens, among others. I find that lens to be quite sharp, especially in the center and at f/8-f/11. I shoot generally at the hyperfocal distance and on a solid Leofoto tripod, using a 10-second delay, for optimum sharpness. I also shoot vertical panoramas with this setup on an RRS Nodal Rail to eliminate parallax. So, you feel that the 14-24 f/2.8 NIkkor Z lens is even sharper than the 14-30? Is that sharpness difference mainly noticeable off-center, or would it be noticeable in the image center as well? Thanks again.

Can you tell me where to get that adapter for the kase rectangular filters ? And is there any vignette with that system since it's only 100mm ?

Hi, thanks for the open, honest review. I too was torn between the f2.8 and f4 but also like some astro/milky-way shooting. I considered the f4 plus a fast wide prime so can get shots without the star tracker. The price of two lenses is the same or more so the f2.8 is better value, gives cleaner city, low light and landscape shits and can do some astro-landscape stuff with goid corners. So it's the best choice and value for me. Iis expensive though. t

我是很心水14-24mm的，但是因为滤镜的关系，所以选择了14-30mm配20mm f1.8
我的14-24配了转接环，使用kase 100mm的方镜，使用体验还可以，就是不能用偏振，得专门陪偏振有点烦
你用铠甲大师就可以了，这样比两个镜头加起来并不贵了
