I guess I was a rare case…. My OBs plan was to start cervidil at night then pitocin at 8am when she’d come in. Well I had the cervidil inserted around 7pm & by midnight to 2amish I was in severe pain. The cervidil came out on its own when I went to the bathroom, lost feelings in my legs while walking back to bed and contractions began very strong and back to back every minute lasting a very long time. I dialated to 4cm, Baby became distressed and his heart rate began to decrease without coming back. I was rushed to OR and had emergency C Section. My son no longer had a heartbeat when he was born… he was revived and received blood transfusions… 52 days in the neonatal intensive care unit… overall so many issues and a domino effect of tragedies.
I got excited when I was told the cervidil would be in me for 12 hrs I was like yes I will be able to sleep not the case not even 2 hrs in this stuff was making me cramp bad and also have bad lower back pain I just hope but the end of the 12 hrs It will have dialated me some cause this feeling is horrible
Lol update cervadil didn't dialate me at all. All the cramps I felt were contractions so basically in put me into labor but didnt dialate me. I was still at 1cm where I started. After the cervadil was taken out I got my epidural before I got placed on pitocin. My epidural failed me and pitocin only got me to 5cm. So basically after 28 hrs of a failed labor I ended up with a c section.
Hi Marie, this is a great question. Most providers suggest keeping the cervidil in for 12 hours at which time you usually try to sleep and then when it comes out you have a meal and a shower. You should be able to eat while it is in, but your provider might suggest waiting.
Thank you for sharing your experience Jeanne, this isn't the case with all providers. Many hospitals have policies against eating with cervidil and requiring monitoring.

I’m so sorry. It sounds like your body had an adverse reaction to the cervidil.
@@birthtoolbox I believe so. My OB said it was “just a freak accident”… her words exactly.
This was so helpful! Thank you

I am sorry to hear that you were uncomfortable. There is such a range of sensation with cervidil from nothing to pain.

Can you eat after getting induced with cervidil?

Yes you can eat, I have had it 2x and both times I was sent home and was allowed to eat as much as I wanted.

Can this be given if you have had a prior c section
It depends on the provider.
