our local weather just said less snow than last year due to EL NINO.. I live in southern lower Michigan about a hour south of Kalamazoo and where I live we only got about 25 inches all last winter.
These forecasts are largely inaccurate. E.g., here in the interior West we went from one of the driest winters on record to the largest snowpack ever recorded within this last La Nina phase.
Arlington Texas will Most Likely See more Snow chances then an average Winter. Chilly conditions. And more winter storm chances can be expected because of the El Nino.
Same ole stuff seeing several different forcasts...gonna get polar vortex with alot of snow then warmer less snow just have to see last year they said oh its gonna be a bad winter was not bad a few small accumulating snow falls one cold blast that seems happens every year now.
Last year they said Warm in the West abd Cold in the East abd we had the complete opposite, I highly doubt it'll hapoen again because they were wrong last tear

you used the term "winter folk lore". that is what the farmers almanac is - there is no way that anyone knows what the weather is going to be in 3 months. all we know when it comes to the weather forecast is the next 10 days, beyond that is anyone's guess.
Generally true. There is skill and accuracy in weeks to a couple months for sure. Otherwise our long range forecasts to clients wouldn't be useful and very close. Which they often are.
@@Neoweather a couple of months?? thats 60 days. there is nobody on god's green earth that can predict the weather in 60 days. no even trends. all we can go by are the forecasting models such as the euro and gfs, which go out to 16 days but their accuracy is more consistent within 10 days. don't let anyone fool you that they can predict beyond that.

We had no winter last winter in Chicago. I’m hoping El Nino doesn’t keep it away again. I enjoy winter.

Usually if acorns drop early. It's gonna be a bad winter. Yes they have been dropping early on long island

That’s because we were already in the transition phase of La Niña to a fairly moderate to strong El Niño.
Oh ya big switches happen every few years.
Same here. Last winter we were supposed to get a bunch of snow but we got one wintry mix event, ironically on Groundhog Day

Old farmers is more accurate than most weathermen every year
That’s a low bar to achieve. Weatherman can predict the weather 3 days from now.
Statisticly they have just 33% accuracy so nah
