      The rain has been terrible Sarmishtha. The only good thing is that we can see which roses tend to ball.

    Beautiful! I’m so impressed when I see people who work with so much space. It looks overwhelming! I’d be paralyzed. Ha!

      @TheRoseGeek  4 месяца назад +1

      At the beginning of the season, I really did feel overwhelmed. Somehow it all diffuses when the blooms arrive. I still have weeds and projects to work on but I drop everything to enjoy the first blooms.

    Our spring here in PNW 8b is very much like summer already. My Golden Celebration, Gertrude Jekyll, Lady of Shalott and Eden are putting on quite a show now. Meanwhile some of the new shoots with tender buds on some varieties of roses were burned... i am so sad ... later found out during the sudden temperature hike between rains I should have kept up watering them accordingly. Lesson learned, lol !!

    • @TheRoseGeek
      @TheRoseGeek  4 месяца назад +1

      I am so sorry that the roses were burned. Between you and me....it is almost getting to warm for me in zone 8a.

    Kim it’s gorgeous. I just want to say because of you I now have caught the rose bug. My distant drums is on its 3rd flush (zone 8b) and is the healthiest rose in my small garden. I’d highly recommend adding in some peonies. I think they would complement your flower beds really well. I added dr Alexander Fleming’s and coral charm last year and plan to get more. I can’t wait to see the future updates.

    • @TheRoseGeek
      @TheRoseGeek  3 месяца назад

      OH YAY! I am so glad you love roses as much as I do Amy! I am so glad to hear that Distant Drums is healthy for you. I am curious if you have humidity where you are located. My DD is not great but I am no quitter. :)
      I have 8 or so peony but they didn't bloom very much for me this season. Now you have me wondering why.....I will need to research that.
      Thank you for being a part of Rose Geeks Amy!

    • @AmyJBrowne
      @AmyJBrowne 3 месяца назад

      @@TheRoseGeek I live in Georgia so we have all the heat and humidity here. I get a bit of black spot on distant drums but nothing like my David Austin’s. And I don’t get much disease pressure either. Even the Japanese beetles don’t do too much damage it is a very good rose in my garden. It is grafted though I don’t know which root stock since I bought it at a local nursery.
      As for the peonies if you buy as small bare roots 1-2 eyes they wouldn’t bloom much in the first several years. Mainly focused on root growth. They could also be planted too deeply. I believe peonies want to be planted 1-2 inches below the surface for blooms. I plant mine higher so when I mulch it all evens out in the end.

    Looking great Kimberly. My rose garden has taken a beating from all the rain & extremely early black spot ☹️
    Love the new path way. The hydrangeas are filling in nice again this year. I wish my roses would stay short after pruning 💐

    • @TheRoseGeek
      @TheRoseGeek  4 месяца назад +1

      I agree. The rain has been terrible this year. My blooms are really taking a beating and some are balling.
      After each flush, when you deadhead, take the cane(s) down to your waist. I really think that will help.

    I’m a new rosarían, do you have any tips for starting a new planting bed?
    I’ll be planting 3 moonlight in Paris (in a slope) I’m so undecided about which companion plants to use.
    Im in zone 7 northern VA. Thanks

    • @TheRoseGeek
      @TheRoseGeek  4 месяца назад +1

      Welcome to roses! So glad you are here with us. You are starting just how I did. I added my favorite roses first to create the background for the beds.
      For a big bang for your buck in zone 7, look for Walkers Low Nepeta. It will grow 6'x 6' in front of the roses and really give you nice color all season. It can be cut back if you would prefer that it was smaller.
      Another favorite companion is Salvia. I like May Night.
      A recommendation is to visit the garden centers at least once a month to see what is in bloom and what color's you like. I try to have continual color either through differing leaf colors (Heuchera) or blooms.
      Have fun!
      Have

      No! You are 100% correct. I mispoke. This is Summer Romance. Liv actually bloomed after but the blooms lasted such a short period.
