      Do you feel there is a risk with this choice? Specifically, behind the back placement for handgun carry, while it looks cool, creates a risk of spine injury if the carrier falls backwards onto the firearm and holster. …although a knife would usually not be as thick as a handgun.

    • @michaelvanbenschoten2165
      @michaelvanbenschoten2165 Год назад +2

      @@TrilobitesRTasty I don't find much risk with the scout setup. I haven't fallen directly on my back since I was 10 roughhousing on the jungle gym. Any rocks or roots are going to be more painful to fall on. My usual outdoors setup is pistol on the right. Knife behind the back sitting just under my backpack, but easily reachable. Reloads on the left. Everything is easily reachable, and I if I set my backpack down, I dont have to leave my knife behind or transfer it like I would with a backpack strap carry.

    The best knife carry is the one attached to your body. If you lose your bag, you’ll still have your knife.

    • @ghanaboyz
      @ghanaboyz Год назад +8

      Voice of reason. Agree. A bag can be lost in many ways. What looks "cool" does not always make sense in the long run.

      remember, the one who has a clip-on bag mostly will have more knives all around

    • @ghanaboyz
      @ghanaboyz Год назад +2

      @@jotasenator Hopefully so. I usually have two blades on long outings, but then again anything addes is also added weight. Two knifes make sense (good weight), but more knife on top of that is just bad weight.
      Some carrying variations shown here I feel may fit better for on site camp life, less so when you are off the beaten path, meaning far outside your camp or farm. Even less prefarable for survival situations in the wild as you can expect to be in bad condition, tired, injuried or stressed out. Adding extra risk for injury (or lost knife) does not make sense inmo.
      In my experience, some works less good when being in a open deck canoe for example and does not work at all in a kayak (closed deck). You may need to use a knife to cut a line or net trapping your canoe.
      Some does not work well if having a large back pack, perhaps with sack or roll under the backpack, low on your back.

    • @jotasenator
      @jotasenator Год назад

      @@ghanaboyz agree with you, when i used to go into the wild I used a machete on my back and a knife on my pants, but walking on the same area doing topography , and leaving the backpack in a fixed spot and taking the knife from there. So i didn t considered the extra weight okok. the machete for making my way through and add visibility and the knife for other tasks, and just one day

    "Scout" carry should be used with caution. Nothing like falling backwards and the object at the small of your back damages the lower part of your spine.
    Would recommend offsetting it to one side like "7 oclock' for left hand or "5 oclock" for right hand, but not dead center of your spine.

    although its cool and pretty useful i wouldn't recommend the backpack one. if you get into a combat situation and they turn it into a grappling situation, if that knife is still in the holster they can easily grab it and stab you with it. now i know this situation sounds specific but a grappling situation is pretty common in life or death combat scenario. but just keep in mind that this is just my opinion and preferences tho.

      Do you use it when having a backpack? Or sitting down in a canoe? How good control do you have without visual and with less natural way to do regular control by touch?
      What about your spine if you wall backwards and get all weight on the knife/scabbard?
      If used very regulary and in harsh conditions, dont you think you weill actually increase the risk of either cutting yourself in the back and/or dropping the knife?
      Yeah, it LOOKS cool and warrior like. but.

    • @clothar23
      @clothar23 Год назад

      @@ghanaboyz ....Okay from the top. If you're properly wearing a pack i.e having synched from the shoulders it's not an issue. Three tours in Afghanistan taught me that.
      As for the rest it all depends on the exact style of knife and scabbard combination. Which also applies to every other carry position.
      Sure if you're one of those people who insist on carrying a sword length knife it'll be in the way in the scout carry position. But an actual proper knife of an actually reasonable length and size isn't a hazard in that position

    Clip on bag the way you positioned the blade holder is correct. The blade holder should be down and not up the way I ve seen other people do it.

    I put my mora 511 in my pocket, exposing only the tip of the handle. Most people don’t know what it is and cops don’t care (illegal to carry a knife in where I live). When I need it, I will have the element of surprise which will make a big difference in a fight.

    As carrying a knife (other than a sub 3" non-locking penknife) is illegal in the UK, I have to have more of a stealthy, concealed carry.
