- Melting snow off Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania is causing what experts say is drastic consequences for the wildlife in Amboseli National Park. Now there are swampy areas, which affect the ecosystem. “The melting of the mountain in the other side is not very good. So it has both positive and negative for Amboseli. It is positive because now we have permanent water source for our wildlife,” said Dr. Patrick Omondi with the Wildlife Research and Training Institute in Kenya.
I actually climbed Kilimanjaro close to five years ago, and it was all white and beautiful at the top! Seeing it being reduced to grey crags comes to show how we’ve been screwing our ecosystems.

I've been to Moshi.
Remember going visit my grandma hometown of Marangu (kilmanjaro) back in 2011 it still had more snow on the top than today. This thing has been happening for years now, slowly but noticeably happening. It's sad how little now it's left.

I live in Denver and this was our first fall with no snow. So sad the world is not being taken care of.
I remember where my grandma’s lived, there used to be so much snow I remember making a snowman on the roof (it was flat roof) that was the 1 and only snowman I have ever made in my life. Now you’d be lucky to see snow flakes/snow falling there. Times rlly has changed-

Denver had their 4th largest snowfall on record in March 2021. Denver has snowfall as early as September or as late as November regularly. The least snow fall in Denver was 21.1 in 1888. 2021 had over 80. 2016 had 21.8, 2016 had 72 they go up and down

This is stupid, it's summer in Africa right now. Kilimanjaro ice melts and recedes every year, then comes back during the rainy season which is in the winter around April. If people don't understand that it's summer south of the equator line, they shouldn't be complaining about climate.

Climate change is real. But attributing every event to climate change, without a study of the facts is lazy.
They did do their studies and watched it closely. The snow’s been melting without it coming back, clearly it’s climate change. If it wasn’t the snow would’ve came back during the winter or smth. There’s no denying this was climate change’s fault. It’s been melting for over 6 years and not 1 drop of snow came back (that’s a hyperbole. Obviously some came back during winter but it gets less and less every passing year)
@@letsdoodlesomethinghome3404 There's no winter around the equator. Also, no one investigated factors such as El-Nino and La-Nina and other cyclical weather events. Also, other mountains in the region haven't reported the same kind of data.

Of course we could be speeding it up or slowing it or any number of things but to that point as our countries technology improves our impact on the environment lessens. So one of the keys to saving the planet if it needs saving from us, is making people everywhere as wealthy as possible as fast as possible, that is done with human innovation, innovation comes from freedom. We need the freedom to fail, to succeed and, to grow.
