      this one seems like somebody had accidentally dropped it in there and it was probably just one of those guns that most gun owners have that they used to test new ammo in in case it breaks a gun they don't want broken due to the duct tape the poor condition of it and the fact that they didn't care enough to fish it out

    • @JohnJones-sg6hu

      Suspicious. Sounds like you have found somebody's dumping ground. They steal it; use it in a crime and dump it in a river where they think nobody will find it. Keep up the good work guys.

    I am just now completing a restoration on an old H&R 20 ga. single shot. Mine wasn't as rusty as yours but it did have some serious rust scabs on it along with some sort of glue that once held some plastic front and rear sights. The stock and forearm had several dents and scratches as it was used for hunting for many years. People usually don't take care of a single shot, they use and abuse them.
    I used a orbital sander on the barrel to remove the rust, then a buffing wheel and a polishing wheel. I blued the barrel which turned out very nice. and I sanded the stock and forearm until they were baby butt smooth. Re-stained (red mahogany) them and finished them with a satin finish. I must say, it turned out very nice and I'm going to keep it. I love single shot shotguns. The simplicity of them make them a cheap gun to purchase and usually there is never any thing wrong with the works of the gun, just have to make them look like new.

    As long as the length of the smooth bore barrel is at least 16" long from the edge of the chamber to the end of the muzzle, it is totally legal to not only own, but fire as well. And I have to say it looks at least that long. And if there is actual rifling inside the barrel, than any length of barrel is legal. Those are the ATF rules and laws. JMHO

      Just having the unassembled parts in close proximity is defined as a firearm. Cutting the firing pin off does not make this exempt from this rule, because it can be replaced in a mere 2 minutes. Why on earth would you risk a felony for a stupid RUclips video? Throw that piece of crap back into the river like the idiot who made it.

      @@chkohl1919 you can have a shotgun with a barrel under 18 inches as long as its "not intended to be fired from the shoulder" as is the case with the Mossberg 590 shockwave. it came from the factory without a butt stock and with a 14 inch barrel making it not a shot gun or rifle. legally its a non NFA item and unregulated.

    • @chkohl1919
      @chkohl1919 3 года назад

      @@lev_iothon The shockwave is manufactured that way and the overall length is over 26". There's also a number of pistols that shoot 410 rounds. The difference with this firearm is that it was clearly modified. There's a big difference between a large manufacturer producing barely legal guns that push the letter of the law, and a gun that literally had a hacksaw taken to it. It's a dumb law, but it's still a felony.

    Can I just say that you've got beautifully manicured nails/hands, especially considering all the work you do!! I enjoy your videos and like it when we get to see your face and hear you explaining the process (as opposed to just a silent, text filled video). Keep up the great work!! 👍♥️

      Well most of the restoration videos are just hands no talking text and that’s it I don’t like doing videos that way I like to talk some and be a little bit in front of the camera but they don’t tend to do very well for views so I’ve done some both ways and thank you for the compliment

    • @JD-tl7ld

      Not 18" overall. A shotgun that left the factory with a stock on it needs to have the barrel be at least 18" in length. You can get away with only 14" if the gun was built with a shockwave. Using the shockwave grips changes the classification of the shotgun from a shotgun, to a firearm. It's all stupid and convoluted.

    • @stevenscott2136
      @stevenscott2136 3 года назад +1

      Interesting trivia: the shotgun/rifle length rules were put into the 1934 gun controll law because the law was meant to restrict pistols also, and they didn't want anybody going the Fallout route and making pistols out of long guns. The pistol part was then removed to increase the chance of the law being passed, but the long-gun rules were still there.

      Possibly but no way to run ballistics sense shotguns do not have rifling also I did run the serial number through the police database came up with nothing and what else can you do unless there was first hand account of a crime being committed that has a description of the firearm to be specific enough to identify as the shotgun thanks for watching

      Yes very true I was new to restorations I have tried electrolysis now but it has not rusted I still have it I didn’t rust because I wiped it with Remi oil. I have done three other restoration since this shotgun and my newest one is not even live on the channel yet I almost made it live today but decided to wait until after the holiday weekend it is a 1917 Remington pump shotgun thank you for watching
