I just cannot explain to you how much these videos have helped me. Absolutely superb in every respect. I managed to follow this video using Maschine Studio and Logic Pro X. It never ceases to amaze me how it's the simple techniques that enable you to capture certain sounds and styles that I have been trying to replicate for so long unsuccessfully. Boris Brejcha's undeniable style is and always will be my favourite, so seeing that you made this tutorial was fantastic for me particularly......AMEN Brother! .....and thanks again for these witty, informative videos that reveal your inner genius... :-)
Can someone explain to me why he sidechains it to that other channel called SC? I'm new to production, and my understanding was that you sidechain it to the kick? For me, that ended up giving a noticeable improvement in the groove (I hear what it's doing) but with the SC channel, I wasn't really getting anything.
The SC channel stands for sidechain. The SC channel has a tick programmed in to match the rhythm of the kicks, i.e. The SC channel has a tick sound that plays whenever the kick (usually) plays. The SC channel doesn't contain any Sonic elements that are in the final song but is a sends only channel used to give an input to different audio effects such as a sidechaining compressor. The reason he sidechains to the SC channel is because sidechaining to the tick sound gives him more control over the actual sidechaining than if he were to sidechain to the kick itself. Additionally there may be parts of the song that doesn't have the kick channel playing. If he were sidechaining other elements to the kick, those elements would lose the pumping compression when the kick was muted as there would be no input in the compressor whereas if they were sidechaining to the SC channel, the compressor always has input and the other elements will maintain the pumping compression
