I've had to do my version of it. I'm only doing Auckland for now, but I should realistically start with other cities as well because my first few days as a trainee were exclusively from calls outside of Auckland.

Do your version of it. Let's start small: If you are a 5-minute drive away, can you find at least 3 different routes to get home? That was what I had to do while I was studying for my restricted license. I'm still doing it with the flooding in Auckland, even though I don't drive anymore.

Inspired by your channel and watching Dean from WizAnn and generally being fascinated with London, I set up the first 80 Blue Book runs on Google Maps, called them and made a RUclips video. I was surprised at how practically interacting with a map and recording a voiceover made the information stick in my brain. I can only imagine how much more effective it would be for retaining the information to physically drive the runs in London too.

Thank you fro this video, its been really helpful. I started the knowledge late October full time, got half way through first book but due to financial difficulties I've not gone out and done more runs since early December and because of this I've not been calling over my runs. After watching your vid it's made me want to start calling over again and get back to being focused and with hopefully some part time work coming up soon I can get back out on thr Road and smash through the knowledge in 2-3 years which is my goal 👍🏻👍🏻

I used you and your fellow Black Cab drivers in London as an example for a new employee at the private ambulance service in Indianapolis Indiana. They are not expected to know where all of the hospitals and major facilities we service are at right away, but they can learn how to get there without GPS and once they do it will make them even more valuable as an EMT than those who can't get around without GPS.

In truth, there is no point doing the knowledge as the shelf-life of a London Taxi has around ten years left at most. Roads have gone down to 20mph and will soon all go down to 15mph to make way for automated vehicles including taxis. Insurance companies have all agreed 15mph will make payouts less. The technology is here if that's the case. Then of course is the 15-minute cities where people Wil be penalized for affectively going out of their zone. Technology is the enemy to everybody's living, and it's a double-edged sword if you're a taxi driver whose passengers are also going to lose their jobs to automation. Tech companies have all slashed their workforce, and the likes of Google in 10 years will have reduced their staff by 75%. Then of course is the costs involved, which has already made the driver work for the taxi rather than the taxi work for the driver.

The time thing simply isn't true and even ordinary people have jobs so busy there isn't time for anything. While I was teaching I had next to no social life because the work kept me busy about 15 hours a day. The rest of the time went to my family and I managed to get some sleep as well, somehow. Working 6/7 days a week, if I wasn't working for work it was housework, or batch cooking. I'd get up at 4am and every 15 minute block of the day had something in it - there was no downtime at all. So don't tell people they're lazy; they're overworked already and at breaking point half the time.

I understand it must be hard. But the solution would be to quit your job. Go on jobseekers. And do the knowledge. Or work part time. If you want something bad enough. You will make time for that. I’m self employed. So I have time for the knowledge. And I have 2 children. I must admit. I do find it tiring sometimes. But it is doable. Wish you the best

The reason people are not "doing the knowledge" is because it's outdated and not relevant in the modern world, in the same way we don't send kids up chimneys to sweep them.

That’s because no one has chimneys. London is a more diverse and complicated world than ever.
Getting rid of The Knowledge because we have sat nav. Is akin to saying; “Let’s not learn a language because we have google translate”. There’s a lot of nuance between languages, that only a fluent or native speaker has expertise in, and can cost dearly in many life situations.
      London is no different

@@TomtheTaxiDriver Doesn't apply to Sat Navs, they know more than any driver, and of course are constantly updated, a drivers "knowledge" of an area / road relates to the last time he drove down there.
And if you look, most houses do have chimneys.
And of course you only have to look how many Cabbies have a Sat Nav
