Thanks I’m glad to hear that. I’m truly here to help and support. I love working one on one with women to support them on this journey.
Thank you so much. I just finished my first year teaching and heard this term thrown around often, but no one was able to give me a straight answer that used friendly language. I understood everything in this video and it’s exactly what I needed
CONGRATULATIONS for completing your first year of teaching. 🎊🙌 That's worth celebrating. I'm glad that the video was helpful. I have some more videos on science of reading vs. Balanced literacy, so make sure you're subscribed so that you don't miss out.
Also, I would love for yout to join me today for my FREE workshop the 3 Secrets to Teaching Reading with EASE. It will be PERFECT for you so that you can start off your career teaching smarter and not harder.

Great video production! Very creative and engaging to watch 😊 Teachers will definitely benefit from your hard work. thanks for everything you do!
Thank you so much Eric. It’s people like you that keep me motivated! Thanks ☺️
This 'science of reading " has already been invented: its called "reading mastery " or a more advanced version "Corrective Reading " a well attablished, well researched program for 50 years.
Everything gets recycled with new titles.
You are Awesome!!! This video is exactly what I was needing!!!
Glad it was helpful!
I have some really fun content coming out regarding the science of reading, so make sure you're a member of this amazing community, so that you will be notified.

This is me . I'm trying to pass my Science GED Test and I have failed twice.
Hello Beatriz. Congrats on taking the initiative towards getting your GED. My advice would be to get the GED prep books and a tutor. They are really helpful.
Gdm. Lil. Sis. AJA, 🙏🏾
Very Good! 👍🏾
Keep post'n knowledge/Education for Parents & children as well.
Thank you, I will
Thank you!!
You welcome 🤗
You didn't talk about the other four components. Are there other videos with the other four?
In this video: ruclips.net/user/liveQbprWPqWHKc?si=Dvoulpk55RASdzvK I go through all 5 componets of reading. I also have a FREE toolkit of seven resources that help teach all 5 components of reading. Grab the toolkit here: www.everythingaja.com/toolkit
I don't neccisarily think explicit phonics instructions, memorization of irregular words, and exposure to a variety of high interest self selected text are mutually exclusive. I belive a high performing classroom provides all of this daily while differentiating for the needs of each unique learner.
So do you lean more towards the Balanced Literacy approach or whole brain teaching approach?
@@EverythingAJA I guess balanced literacy. 3/4 of my Reading instruction is phonemic awareness and explicit phonics with a section on irregular word reading daily as well. The other 1/4 is explicit Comprehension strategy with modeling and we do a lot of close reading during that time, small group is about 50/50 targeted phonics skill practice based on the needs of the students in the group and guided reading with leveled readers. Independently students self select trade books that are at an independant reading level for them and practice applying their word attack/fluency/comprehension skills. I think phonics is definitely the most emphasized of the reading components but the others give the students context for why we read and why those skills are important. To be honest though, I don't know much about whole brain beyond "Class,Class", so I can't really speak to that.
@@joykinser3444 Learning irregular words is part of the science of reading, but also recognizing that many irregular words are not that irregular -- in other words, learning that the ae sound can be made with ae (aesop), a_e, ai, ay, ea (great), eigh (eight), ei (vein), and ey (they) and that sometimes you have to try ey as in they or ey as in key until your brain maps out which word makes which sounds. And that's why it has to be done systematically. Learning all that in one unit would make one's head spin. Learning a_e first, then adding ai and ay, then gradually adding the others.
My biggest problem with leveled readers is that they often only practice a few words and then the rest of the words often need pictures. I like dogs. I like cats. I like rainbows. I like ice cream, etc. The child is practicing, "I" and "like" a lot, and if they know CVC words, they can decode dogs and cats. If they've learned ai and ow and s, they can decod rainbows. Then, they need i_e and ea to decode ice cream. Decodables tend to be more varied, so they'd be practicing, for example, i_e words: Mike has a bike. He likes his bike. He rides it a lot. etc. That forces the child's brain to consider how to read i_e in many contexts.
But leveled readers (and all books) can be great for enjoyment of reading if they are not the main practice, imo.
Such a great breakdown of the science of reading!
Thank you so much.
On Tuesday at a PLC.
Good ole PLCs! Are you implementing the Science of Reading?
@@EverythingAJA One person wants us to use "the next steps in guided reading" and another person brought up the Science of reading. I didn't realize it was the opposite of learning through play and many of the strategies we already use for reading and learning.

As a teacher, I have to give your explanation a "D" , because you spent most of video explaining how confused you were and not explaining the topic.
well said
Thanks for your input. I tried my best to break it down as simple as possible. I know that my audience is also composed of homeschool parents with no educational background and its important for them to simply understand the concept. I recently did another quick explanation in which I did add in the simple view of reading. You can check it out here: ruclips.net/video/hJDSZbj9QDs/видео.htmlsi=SEOWQftQeOat9xMo
I'm hearing a lot of anecdotal evidence...and not a lot of science. Also, please include a list of your sources. Real science has both.
