On The Road With Thomas Merton

- In the summer of 1968, Christian mystic Thomas Merton undertook a pilgrimage to the American West. Fifty years later, filmmaker Jeremy Seifert and writer Fred Bahnson set out to follow Merton’s path, retracing the monk’s journey across the landscape. Amid stunning backdrops of ocean, redwood, and canyon, the film features the faces and voices of people Merton encountered.
This film premiered in the fourth issue of Emergence Magazine on "Faith" with an accompanying essay by Fred Bahnson. Read or listen to the essay here: www.emergencema...

"The poet turns inward to create. The contemplative turns to God to be created. "❤🙏🇦🇺
I’ve been watching this almost daily for the past two months. It helps me to center. Thank you!
Amazing I found Thomas Merton through Richard Rohr and Theodore Nottingham and I am very inspired and grateful also I see the influence on both of these great men of God 🙏 Christ
Thank you. Beautiful reflection of Thomas Merton.
This short Merton video clip is a masterpiece. More please... I'm watching and listening. 🙏👍🏻
Amen, Lord Jesus I close my eyes because wherever you take me I trust in you. I do not want visions or warnings only your hand leading me
Many thanks
Absolutely gorgeous. Thank you so much for creating and sharing this Beauty and Truth.
Beautiful film. It expresses something beyond words.
Spirituality, Nature, God, Coexistence, and Self-Discovery and the journey. What an astounding piece of film and very insightful. Is this an example of a human who knew exactly what his purpose was and decided to remove himslef from the cycle and venture forth to a new path. And the mkst astounding thing js that the experience and interactions you made to peolme do leave a mark and those who have gone and those who have stayed keep their memories of such persons as him. I'm just in awe this is such an amazing discovery of a channel and film. Maybe this is my own pilgrimage finding my own way as a way to start my long awakted journey as well. I guess finding is no accident.
Grazie Grazie Grazie... Is very beautiful! 🙏❤️
This is beautifully profound. Thank you for this! A reflection in itself.
Thomas Merton for me, was a person who I feel is still with us, who leads us, and whose death was certainly not in vain. Thank you Br. Lewis.

This was very beautiful. That monastery in New Mexico looks sublime. I dream to visit it one day.
Muchísimas gracias.
A most wonderful presentation! Merton is a voice sorely needed in these turbulent times.
Beautiful video
In our centering to hear the voice of Christ..which is ever within us ...emptying all thought as The Indwelling of Christ is our Author and Creator...losing self..enables us to FIND SELF..IN SELFLESSNESS...FIRST...listen...then..wait...and the THEOSIS..is silence..all embracing..nothing is without Christ's presence..being HERE NOW..is being given every second...a lifetime to behold.
Thank you 🙏
This is amazing
Lovely. Brilliant. Well done!

He sought out Tibetan monks in exile in India wanting teachings on how some monks disappear in the rainbow body at death. They instead saw he needed other teachings on Phowa, the transference of mind at death instead as they could see his death was near.
Just curious about your source - I'm only starting to dig in. He was only 53 when he died and I'm transcribing for a client three days of talks he gave at the abbey around Rilke, the poet just five years before his death.
