    in brief:
In this video, Kenzo explains the concept of comprehensible input and how to use it to improve English language acquisition. The comprehensible input hypothesis, developed by linguist Stephen Krashen in the 1980s, asserts that we acquire language when we can understand what is being said. Comprehensible input is language that we can understand, aided by things like facial expressions, hand gestures, drawings, and pictures.
To acquire English using comprehensible input, learners should find content at their level. Beginners should focus on reading easy books with pictures and watch videos made specifically for English learners. Intermediate learners can continue reading easy books without pictures, watch cartoons, and begin listening to easy podcasts and audiobooks. Advanced learners can engage with native English content, including books, movies, TV shows, podcasts, and news stations meant for ordinary English speakers.
The video suggests aiming for a 90-95% understanding of content to optimize learning. Kenzo also mentions that he will research and share good, free resources for each level in a future video.

Dear Kenzo, I am Leo’s mum and I watched this video 6 months ago and got very impressed by your explanation of comprehensible input theory. Leo is 6 years old and he started to learn English at 5. By the way, we are Chinese and we live in China. At the beginning I taught him in a rather traditional way, by helping him memorizing basic words, repeating sentences etc. But it did not work very well. Accidentally he knew Minecraft from short videos and got very interested in everything about it. I couldn’t let him play video game yet, because at that time he was only 5! But he was so enthusiastic so I decided to find something that can satisfy his wish and also satisfy my wish (to help him earn English). That’s why I searched in RUclips and discovered your channel, which is exactly what I am looking for! Then things became very interesting, Leo is so keen on your videos, and he could guess what you are talking about even though he did not know some words. For those words he really could not understand, he asked me for help (sorry I have to check dictionary because my English is limited too!) And then in our daily life, sometimes I am surprised to find that he knows new words or expressions. Then I asked him how he knew them and he said it was from Kenzo! At that time I realized how magical your videos are! Your videos are always high quality and fun, and I have to say that it is scientific too because it utilizes compressive input theories! After this video I also followed your advice to encourage Leo to read simple books and listen to English materials several times until he gets bored of them, and this method turned out to be very useful too. Thank you so much Kenzo for all your efforts in producing such great videos, to help people like Leo to learn English! And thank you for producing the Nether video following Leo’s recommendation, this is such a wonderful gift from you! You are a great star!

Thank you so much for the kind message, I am so glad to hear that my content is helping Leo with his English! When I began learning French years ago, I noticed that after months of learning I began to lack the motivation to continue because the process of studying wasn't enjoyable. That's why a big focus of mine is to provide educational, but also entertaining content in order to keep learners motivated to continue spending time with the language. There is still much I can do to improve, but I am happy to hear that I am accomplishing my goals. I will continue trying to produce better and better content into the future. Thanks again for your kindness, I hope that Leo will continue to watch and improve in the language! 😊

Comprehensible input is a difficult topic to teach to beginners, I realized that while filming this video! I think very simple stories and concepts are a good place to start teaching with comprehensible input. 🙂

Learning through comprehensible input is absolutely rewarding and effective, as has been my experience with French and Italian, but it also demands that teachers are ready to do a lot of extra work in making language comprehensible. Comprehensible Input is for lazy learners but not for lazy teachers!
