  • It's been a while since we posted a tech video, so on behalf of everybody involved in the MOA's RUclips channel (which is pretty much just me, the guy writing this), we'd like to welcome you to this break in the long stream of podcast videos to present a new tech video!
    In this video, we walk you through the process of finding and replacing the battery in a 2018 BMW G 310 GS. This process applies to other G 310 models, but there may be differences so be sure to look things up if you have questions.
    Regardless of what kind of motorcycle you have, George and Wes provide some invaluable tips as well as things to watch out for when installing a new battery in your bike.
    Tools needed:
    * T30 torx driver
    * Flathead screwdriver
    * 10mm socket
    * Angle cutters
    Supplies needed:
    * Zip ties
    * A little plastic tubing (optional)
    * A new battery!
    For more info about the BMW MOA, visit www.bmwmoa.org/. We're not sure what we're going to do with this bike donated to the BMW MOA Foundation (www.bmwmoaf.org/), but we've got some ideas. Stay tuned!

    Seems like you didn't need to cut the tie wraps. They stay attched to that piece

      Possibly, but zip ties are cheap and easy to replace, so my first tendency is to cut 'em!

      Yeah you don't need to cut them at all, they can stay attached to the clip.

    Hello could you help me please I have a bmw g310r, the bike is fairly new with only 6k miles, I started up the engine and I needed to fill up my tyres so I used the sun plug, I had a din to cigarette lighter adaptor so I used that to connect my car there inflator to the bike so I can inflate the tyre the engine of the bike was running, the tyre inflator inflated for 3 seconds and the whole motorcycle engine stopped working. I tried to start the bike again but no luck. The horn and headlights work but there is no power to the display or ignition, checked the fuses under the seat and they all work. Do you know what it could be? Many thanks

      No idea. It sounds like you were using your car to power the air pump, which wouldn't make a difference to the bike. If that's accurate, I've no idea why your bike would just quit like that.

      @@barun8216 Ah I understand now. I'd bet you blew a bunch of fuses and possibly fried a relay as well. You'll definitely need to check the fuse box.

      @@BMWMOAorg I have checked the fuses under the seat and they all seam fine do you know by any chance where the relays are located ?

      @@barun8216 Pull them out and check them - fuses can look OK and still be blown. No clue where the relays are.

    Where is the VIN located on 310 GS?

      It should be on the steering head on a small engraved plate. You may find it stamped into the frame as well.

    Ok, so to the point, what do we never do? I have gone through your vid a couple times quickly… what do we never do? In 7 words or less. Thanks.

      Don't put a new battery in before trying to charge the old one perhaps? D:
