  • Sometimes we stumble across surveys that rank towns and cities across the UK: 'The coolest place to live', 'The most depressing to live' or 'Best place to live!'. When they feature a town in Cornwall, it piques our curiosity and we feel compelled to visit and see if its true - tongue in cheek of course!
Recently a harbour village in Cornwall has been ranked the COOLEST PLACE TO LIVE in the UK and we took a look for ourselves. Join us on the trail of many cool things to see and do.
    The standard description bit…
We are Sarah and Andrew and we film around Cornwall and publish videos on RUclips, usually weekly. Sarah collects sea glass to add to paintings of local scenes which are sold on Etsy. The channel is a hobby that we fit around family and normal day jobs.
Unfortunately we cannot answer comments coming in more than a week after the publishing date of the video.
    Frequently asked questions:
    Do we have meet ups?
We are limited for time because we fit the channel around our family and jobs. We meet up with people who are Patrons and RUclips members, both on group walks and one-to-one. If you join, you will be notified.
Unfortunately we do not have scope for further meet ups but if you happen to bump into us while out and about, we will be more than happy to have a quick chat!
    What camera do we use?
Since December 2018 we have used: Canon Powershot G7x MkII
How do I find the books you use?
Most are still in print although some we pick up in charity shops and may be available on Amazon secondhand. Please refer to the video for the book titles. Every video shows the book title. Sorry but we can’t put a link in every description.
Best time of year to visit Cornwall?
We love May, June for flora and fauna, July and September for spectacular scenery.
    What is your dog’s name?
Sorry but we do not release the name of our dogs, perhaps you can make up your own name for them.

I live about 2 miles from Polperro but have not been for years as the car parking at the top of the village, privately owned, is Extortionate. My pension won't stretch to it. Would love to go again if I win the lottery!!!

Polperro is my fave place on earth. Been going there for over 40 years ❤
I agree the word cool is the wrong word to describe Polperro.
    Great video as always.

Thank you for this wonderful vlog which brought back great memories. We spent two great holidays in Polperro in the 2010’s. The 1st time we stayed in a large flat over the leather shop near the harbour (not sure if it is still there). The 2nd in the Crumplehorn Pub. We live in the Norfolk Broads and have visited Wells-next-the-Sea many times. It is an OK place in North Norfolk but we are not sure why it featured so high on the list of cool places.

Raid your piggy bank, the model village is up for sale. Own your own village, how cool would that be 😊

We holidayed in Polperro many times in the 80s and 90s in our younger days and always loved doing so, those were the days when the horse drawn bus was there and the village was truly bustling, but recently i feel that it has lost some of it's charm and atmosphere, there was shop selling paintings on the Warren with a quite eccentric lady with an old cash register, the bakery was in an old building on a street corner and had a certain quirky charm, you could hardly get through the streets as they were so crowded, but now it feels a bit lost and there are just not the amount of people there on the rare occasions we have visited recently. Still Love the Polperro to Looe coast path walk which we did regularly, but cheated and got the bus back from Looe to Polperro.

Yes lost its shops I believe. Bakery, the little grocery shops. Not the same anymore.

Wells next the sea has a huge flat sand beach, the tide comes in so fast they say it travels faster than any man can run, so there are people in canoes who travel out via the water ways that go up the sides of the banks and they warn walkers that the tide is coming in so they turn back in time, there used to be alarms on the beach that sounded but I’m not sure they are still there or not. It’s one of the most gorgeous places in the UK. The tide circles the sand flats to form a shallow river between the main beach and the flats so it’s safe for kids to swim and use inflatables, with care and supervision of course.

Thought provoking , and I find myself doubting the validity of the list. As a fully paid up northerner, I am gobsmacked that Morecambe made the top 5. It certainly has a vast scope for improvement. The old joke is that the Germans bombed the place and did 2 bobs damage.
Keep up you good work, it’s always fun watching them, and explains why we are currently on holiday in the county.
