  • The sound of the Blackcap bird singing. Its delightful fluting song has earned it the name 'northern nightingale'.

    Thank you. This is my favorite singing bird, heralding the spring every year. He is as right as clockwork, never fails with his timing. It is pure joy to listen to him when no other sounds can be heard. 👍👍🌻

    I actually heard one for the first time yesterday. Merlin told me what it was (but I double-checked!). Lovely song.

    Quite amazing Paul, not sure I've ever seen one. When I'm at home I live in N Staffs Moorlands. My favourite the song thrush has disappeared! They were common when I was a kid, as common as Blackbirds, now alas all gone!

      Birds can be aggressive, robins are very terratorial and I don't fancy being a female mallard in the spring !!

    Isn't it meant to sound like two pebbles tapping together??

    • @madmurdock100
      @madmurdock100 7 лет назад +2

      No, that description is given to the Stonechat not the Blackcap

    • @leeetchells7100

      madmurdock100 They make a sound like two pebbles. I have heard them.

    • @madmurdock100
      @madmurdock100 7 лет назад

      Even it sounds like it, in professional terms the description is always given to the Stonechat (hence it's name). None of my professional birding books reference a Blackcap's call as being similar to a Stonechat. However, apparently some individuals do sometimes mimic the calls and sounds of other birds so maybe the one you heard was mimicking a Stonechat, but on the whole it is unusual but nevertheless an interesting observance. Blackcaps have now arrived for the spring where I live and so I will listen out for them :)

    • @basilvictorhomer
      @basilvictorhomer 5 лет назад

      @@madmurdock100 Agree, the Stonechat's song is universally recognised for sounding like two stones being tapped together. But if you Google the BTO video 'Getting to grips with warblers 2: Blackcap Vs Garden Warbler, you'll discover that at 2.24 it states "The Blackcap call (as opposed to its song) is a hard 'peck peck' almost like two stones being hit together!"
      So it turns out that you, @purple pickle and Lee Etchells are all correct!!!
      I thank you.
