  • A man who had 18 wild goldfinches caged in his home was fined after admitting breaking the Wildlife act.
    Cetin Metin, 20, claimed he had bought some of the birds from a man in the pub and was given the rest as presents from his family.
    When RSPCA inspectors and a police officer visited his home on July 6, they found the birds kept in nine cages in his home and garden.

    Guys, the problem isn't that the man kept goldfinches, the problems are that 1) he kept WILD goldfinches, and 2) HOW he kept them. You can't just take a bird out of the wild and expect it to be happy in captivity -- this is cruel and an unworthy existence. That said, goldfinches can be excellent companion birds if they are raised in captivity, from captive-born parents (there's plenty of breeders who've domesticated finches over generations, so no need to catch from the wild). Just as importantly, goldfinches are very active and intelligent and have a great need for movement, so they need big cages PLUS several hours of free flight every single day. It looks as if none of this was heeded here, so the fine was justified.

      I bought two wild goldfinch chiks a male & a female, they were captured young 😢 at the age of 40 days , from different places, the male is called Pancho & his little female is called Polina i am working on taming bouth of them very kindly everyday, Pancho is very smart bird he recognize my face and he stay calme whene i come to him waiting for his gift, he already eat from my hand and and steal seeds from my mouthe 😅, polina is a cute bird she love always singing and dancing the whole day she has now six months by far but she is a cautious one, even she alrady eat from my hand but she doesn't want to go out from its cage and surrender itself to me as panchon did in before in a shorter time, but i wil still trying with her because i feel she started to realy love me but she is just shy, not like pancho who loves me only whene i give him his favorit foods, i will put them together ❤ when they will be ready for mating, & i will keep the chiks for me & resales pancho & polina in the nature where no one can catch them again, i hope so

    A Robin Redbreast in a Cage
    Puts all Heaven in a Rage.
    A dove house fill’d with doves and pigeons
    Shudders Hell thro’ all its regions.
    A Dog starv’d at his Master’s Gate
    Predicts the ruin of the State.
    A Horse misus’d upon the Road

    You have to wonder sometimes why so many people post nest cams but never show the chicks fledging. Some of these cams set up by people are not for the most wholesome of reasons. Some are set up to monitor bird nests to determine the optimal time to collect the chicks for minimal works on the collectors part for feeding baby birds while at the same time giving enough time left before they can fly or fend for themselves so they can be “domesticated” enough by the human to get them use to being handled. Then they can also be passed off as “captive bred or hand fed chicks”. Not everyone’s intentions with wild nest cams are for innocent purposes and have a more sinister reason.

    i have trapped thousands of goldfinches when i was a kid they settle down very quick and start whistling they become very friendly we use to let them fly inside the house at night time and they would go back into there cage after a while you can let them go and some will come back great aviary bird to bread them with canneries nothing wrong with catching them best catch them winter time you can stop then starving to death dont use mesh on the cage, bars only that will save the feathers around the beak

    This is not cruelty. These birds are raised as pets. Can become very docile and can be cross bred with canaries for beautiful singing mules.
    It will be thanks to breeders that some species will survive, statistics show that birds in the wild are finding it difficult to survive due to habitat destruction, lack of food supply, greenhouse effect, chicks dying in eggs due to higher temperatures. See how many videos there are online of breeders who tamed them as pets and they come happily for a treat.

    • @mattellis4176
      @mattellis4176 3 года назад +2

      What utter nonsense, you don't know anything about the history of this illegal wildlife trade. In Victorian times goldfinches were caught in such numbers for the cage bird industry that they almost went extinct in the UK. Today goldfinches as a species are one of relatively few which are doing quite well. They don't need to be 'helped' by being caught and caged. The caged bird industry is however on the rise again, and UK goldfinches are caught and sold for profit by some complete scumbags.
      You are right that it will be partly thanks to breeders that some species will benefit from the contribution of *well-trained professional breeders*, and for examples of what good practice looks like see ruclips.net/video/svZyup7XxtQ/видео.html or ruclips.net/video/sOwpvFtYcTM/видео.html. What this guy has done is definitely cruel with very poor care taken of these birds. He's no breeder. He clearly either does not care or does not know what he is doing. The damaged feathers are from birds hitting them on the bars trying to get out, which you can also see them doing in the video. If the bird was happy being where it was would it be doing that? Almost certainly these are wild birds, not used to being caged, which is why they are behaving like that; particularly when humans are so close. Catching wild birds in the UK is totally illegal.
