What deviates from all this is when the attention of the observer is greater than the attention of the craftsman performing the work. By cutting off the depressed ends of the hammer and shortening the hammer, you have already taken a lot off the original weight of the hammer. If you already had to do it, then why didn't you at least use a manual sander to remove the numerous craters caused by the rusting process and bring the hammer to a complete smoothness and shine, but left it all? You will agree that the hammer would look much nicer that way than it does now. As it is now, it is susceptible to rust again because you didn't protect it with hot or cold bronzing (hot bronzing is better). In my opinion, this is a half-finished restoration. I would rather call this a cleanup than a restoration. You tried, but not enough, which was reflected in the final product of the restoration itself. I would like this criticism not to have a negative effect on you, but to help you avoid such mistakes in restorations in the future. I wish you a nice and pleasant day. I dug some chisels out of my garden some years ago, a common cold chisel and a flat chisel, the flat chisel was stamped Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway, (UK) which hasn’t been in existence for 100 years, so I know the chisel was made from 1847-1923. The ordinary chisel has no markings, so I don’t know the age of that one, except I’v been in this property for 25 years, and the previous owner passed away in his 90’s. Both chisels are in my work tool box and still get used occasionally.

200 years old .... Not. The head was welded on a round bit of tube as a handle. At 6:57 you can see the remains of the welding that have been ground off. I don't think welding in this form was around 200 years ago.

Rust remover 2-3 days, electrolysis, angle grinder, sand. That’s quite a bit of over kill. Rust remover or electrolysis overnight the grind and sand would be all that is needed.
Че ж все так криво-то сделано? Плоскости хрен знает от чего взял. Никакой соосности. Молоток явно из сырого железа и он его без термички оставил, центральное отверстие никак почти не обработал. Гриндер у него был с самого начала оказывается, а он болгаркой на глаз грани снимал. Я уже молчу про кривую не обработанную деревяху в выщербленами и дыркой от гвоздя... За то, что старался, конечно, молодец, но как реставратор или как нормальный мастер с прямыми руками он, конечно, такой себе ломастер... Есть куда расти.

I'm not sure this is really that old. It is missing the RUclips restorers, standard bright orange rust.
I would have removed the rust and sealed the metal, nothing more. A piece of history has been lost forever. Just my opinion of course.
I know what you mean it’s not so much a restoration as re-using the material for a new concept. The restoration title must be better for views etc…

Was wondering why you didn't use the electrolysis part of the process as well but loved how you left some of the ruff parts ,great job
Great observation: Obviously the cola wasn’t strong enough... electrolysis may have helped too.
I was def thinking electrolysis would have been the best route.
