I can't understand how some musicians can play these the most well known pieces in so personal a way they become like new - or how it comes that the new thing about it also is what makes it appear as "the original".
Kemal, as usual the most phenomenal performance. I have been searching for Mephisto Waltz played by you, cannot find it. Read the article where you mentioned practicing the middle section for 8 hours, YOU ARE INCREDIBLE ARTIST!!! Please be kind enough to post it. Thank you very much.
I haven't listened to everything yet, but as a first observation it is interesting that Chopin marks the beginning Moderato (after the intro). I think this is awfully slow for moderato. I think many pianists play this moderato more like adagio. But this is definitely a great performance anyway.
The firts time I heard Kemal Gekic was in FIU Concert Hall. I remember I was with a pinao teacher of FIU that pasted way Miguel Salvador. We were there alone with another guy that was seated upstair. Kemal was playing Chopin Scherzo No. 2 in B flat minor Op. 31. I admire him since the firts time, I said to myself this is very, very, very good playing. Daniel Morales
Wow I have just listened to his interpretation of Etude Op. 25 No. 12. I had never heard about him, and now I am deeply impressed by his superb playing. If it's Gekic, go check it lol.
His Soul simply ! The performers who feel the music who are well equipped with the technique just re - create it in a way ;-) Harder work, yes but how lucky to be so :-)
I respect musicians with RISK & WISDOM !He becomes my favorite ! Kemal Gekic makes very FRESH IDEAS in his performances..& all of them are persuasive to me. GIFTED INNOVATOR ! Also I like his "solid" movements while life performances..without "dancing" next to FP !
Interesting ?? I was sitting down working on something listing to classical music and to my surprise I thought for sure the pianist playing this ballad was none other than Vladimir Horowitz. He brought out certain sounds only the great master pianist would have done. Great job nonetheless!!
no it's inconsistency. were it a different touch to the keys or changes in tempo I would agree with you, but for some reason this strange pianist likes to hesitate on notes that, it makes no sense to hesitate at all on, as if one were turning "And then... he... picked up a cat" to "And... then he picked... up a... cat" one is more coherent and consistent in phrase than the other And now that I consider it he seems to flop all over the keyboard rather than having any sort of romantic touch. for a good interpretation of this piece, look up "Youri Egorov"

This is a marvellously sensitive and creative rendition of the piece. Wonderful.
This has been my favourite Ballad No.1 performance for years.

c'est une découverte ....la main gauche dans le final presto con fuoco est inimaginablement belle!
Wonderful interpretation! Hats off to Gekic. Though, personally my favorite interpretation would be that of Rubenstein's.

Not yet ! But I wish...! life performance is totally different reality of impressions.
Of course it MUST be BETTER !
@Grigor99 - gekic is always individual. :)
@Grigor99 I'm surprised that you call it 'mannered' and 'very individual' as an interpretation. Why do you say that? I'm interested. :=)
what do you think is he ignoring?
Čemu to sentimentalno zavlačenje tempa?
Much roo slow the beginning!
I don't like the inconsistency
It's not inconsistency. It's not repeating an idea the same way.

shopin... Chopin* that is not so hard to write
Karrikiert, übersentimental. Nein!
This was a hot mess.
Wow. A really good interpretation!
I see no flaws at all technically.
Some parts I would have played a bit slower though, especially around the end...
