I've just watched like 30 different egg washing machines on YT, and seems like this is one of the best models out there for mid-range raisers (people with several thousand chickens, not 100 or 1 million). Thanks for the video, guys!
Note: The government requires these eggs be "washed" before packaging and offering them for sale. Washing them removes a natural coating that seals out oxygen and protects the eggs (and chicks) from all kinds of nasty mini-micro bugs. As a result, the eggs age/spoil more quickly. On the farm ages ago we just dabbed off dirt spots and put them in a wire basket in a refrigerator or just a cool, ventilated area. They lasted many more weeks comparatively. The filthy eggs were used ( or frozen !!!) soon after a thorough wash.
Terry Russel unwashed eggs dont need to be refrigerated. Washed eggs need to be refrigerated. Washed and refrigerated they can last a pretty long time. How do i know? Experience.
gross. didn't you read this guy's post? that is just a 'natural coating that seals out oxygen. Nobody wants to be exposed to THAT.

The bloom on the egg was always left on when my grandparents owned a chicken farm. They just dabbed the poo of of the eggs. But they did refrigerate the eggs that didn't sell that very day. I realize the bloom should stay on but if it is washed off, you can be assured you're getting a dated, fresh egg because the shelf life is so short. I actually like fridged eggs only because they held their albumen tighter than a warm egg. They scramble a whole lot nicer when they're viscous. Anyway, to each his own I guess. Some people drink raw milk in Europe too. But I'll take mine pasteurized, thanks!
I'd think that packing the cardboard containers could use the vacuum system, too. Little more play with orientation, but could help them go even faster!
Hi Kay, Feel free to check out our sister company HenGear.com for more details on our poultry operation. There is also a spot there for you to contact our poultry managers directly to ask even more questions.
Great to see they are using carton instead of foam for packaging. Wondering what happens to the waste water after the egg washing? Could there be an use for It, aquaponics, etc.?
Hi , I’m live in GA if I want start to sell my fresh chicken or quail eggs in grocery store, what step I need to do? Please can you give me you option.
Y'all have been doing this for a while, huh? Wow. I just watched your 'How we gather 850 eggs per day' video... and subscribed. Y'all have 1,000+ hens, and top-notch equipment?! I haven't started my hen/egg journey yet, but I will soon. I think 1,000 is way too much right now... 6 ought to do. :) Lol.
Great video. When I go and get eggs, they all say large grade A. The eggs from the big box store seem to be smaller then the eggs bought at the chain grocery store. Why?
Most of our eggs are direct marketed to our online consumer base - sevensons.net/store/pasture-raised-eggs - We've also partnered with several distributors who're helping distribute eggs to several supermarkets, such as Kroger & Whole Foods (select regional locations).
Terrible, even their donuts are terrible, frozen and warmed up these days. There used to actually be a guy making fresh donuts at each location years ago, now factory produced garbage.
in much of the world its illegal to wash the eggs because it removes the cuticle or protective layer from the outside of the egg, if this is removed by washing it means the eggs must be refrigerated to prevent bacteria and germs from getting in to the eggs, if the cuticle is present they can just be kept at room temperature and will be fine for use for months
Question of u have dry dirty eggs can I just scrubb them? Will this ruin bloom ?? I'm trying to preserve them with put ruining bloom. I see people rinsing them off does that ruin blum?? I can't seem to get answer. It's either wash or eat. I'd like to have more answers to dry dirty eggs with out washing. 2nd question I want to perserve so after drying rubbing scraping want to put into l8me or mineral oil to PERSERVE. WILL THIS DIRTY EGG THAT I JUST RUBBED STUFF OFF CONTAMINATE OTYER EGGS. ??
Hi Arlene, great questions. If you rinse the egg it will remove the bloom. If you just rub the egg with a dry cloth it should not remove the bloom. I don't have information about how to preserve the eggs and how clean the egg has to be before preserving.
At what stage does it apply a protective layer of coating that is naturally present at the point of lay that protects the egg from harmful bacteria from entering the shell?
Commercial eggs in the US are stored and sold in refrigeration units. Also, most people keep them in their refrigerators at home, so there is very little need to worry about washing off the egg's protective coating. My understanding is that in Europe they don't wash the eggs at harvest, but the trade off is that you end up with shit and feathers on your eggs.
Since asking the question, I realised that in the US it is customary, even a government requirement to wash eggs dirty or not, but I thought it would also be required to apply a protective coat afterward to maintain the natural barrier that is washed off. The refrigeration I heard maximises the the shelf life of the egg, but would be more effective I'd say if it wasn't washed (obviously on condition that it is a clean egg to start with).
Refrigeration reduces or eliminates the need for a protective coating, and very few people in the US ever get sick from eating bad eggs. Ultimately, our industry moved to a "washed egg" model over the years for various reasons, clean presentation to the consumer being one of them. Ultimately, though, both ways have their pros and cons.
Bro, Washing damages the protective layer (cuticle) in the egg shell. Especially in the eggs washed in cold water, the microorganisms on the shell surface are drawn into the eggs through the microscopic pores on the eggs. For this reason, the risk of infection increases in washed eggs.
IF you're looking for idea of what to show, I'd really like to take a peek into the logistics of this whole egg operation. See how you buy that carton packaging. Not where, but mostly in what form it arrives. How you buy feed. How big are the bags when it arrives and how you split into smaller batches to handle every day. I see in this video that in that room you have a lot more than 800-900 eggs you said you collect every day. How long can you keep them before washing and packing. Then I see you load eggs into big boxes and carry them somewhere. Where? How long you store them at the farm and where do you take them? Do you sell them in your store or you sell them to a wholesale buyers. I'm a city dweller and farm life is mystery to me. I still can't understand why cows can't just walk up to some 7-11 and eat like normal people. Why do people have to feed them? :-)) But I'm very curious about... well, everything agriculture. I'm not sure how many of your subscribers share my interest, but here's what I want to know. :-) Cheers.
I wish we could see the inside of few eggs and what would be the color of the yolks! I prefer the non-washed eggs because washing will affect the life of an egg and make it very short. Good job in general. Blessings to you!!.
Right, cuz u wash away that natural protective coating. E.g. in the EU eggs are not washed when delivered to the market, you have to do it properly by your own before using, but thus cooling isn't needed. In the US, however, they have to be washed and therefore get cooled permanently.
This is my dream. One day , I will have poultry farm. I'm very sure. I have been trying all my possible best. But I'm helpless. I'm currently in Netherland for study this. I come from a country, where you have the market for eggs and poultry stuff. 100,000 of eggs is not enough.
You need a small conveyer where the empty cartons are stacked to mover the eggs to the boxer. Poor girl in the middle has to double handle, guy on end triple handles them ☠️

No one washes the eggs in the rest of the world. It is only an American thing.

Stephen,
I heard somewhere that washing eggs is harmful is that true ?
First job I had in High School was gathering eggs in 3 hen houses, with 5000 lose hens each. Terrible dust!
beautifully automated system but why is final step of putting them in cardboard containers not part of automated assembly line?
peoce for this machine please
dear sir I would like to know the price of this mechine.
So what's the deal with not washing or not refrigerating eggs?

Funny that no-one was able to mimic artificially that protective coating yet, and apply it afterwards again.
Hens are beautiful little marvels! 🐔

my grand mother taught me how to sneak her boos IM BETTER THEN U!!!!
if the egg is dirty you need to wash it, unless you want to hatch it !! never wash an egg that you want to get a chick from it.
Right, cuz u wash away that natural protective coating.
