As an Old Goth Mom...I'm sorry for you. Hot Topic wasn't even a think when I went Goth in the late 80s. We old, ancient ones had to stock up at Halloween and thrift everything or learn to sew and make it ourselves.
I'm only a babybat in the goth community and even I'm disappointed. I have always loved making alternative Sims and was super pumped to be promised the release of a kit focusing on goth fashion. But the items in the kit seem to mostly be contemporary goth. And while I personally have no problems with contemporary goth, I think that the kit should have been marketed accordingly. Calling it the 'Goth Galore' kit implies that multiple elements of a range of goth subgenres will be shown. ... Which just isn't the case.
As a goth person, I don't really like this pack. It was a missed opportunity It could have been better but its a kit so I didn't have high expectations.
They could have done some time on googel to see what type of goths there are, i would have loved some all out goth stuff but no it's some basis b!chts stuff that doesn't even have some hair

Goth has two main and very iconic fashion assets- hair and makeup. To offer a goth pack without a blunt bang or sharp spidery layers is a total miss. To completely miss nuance of the spectrum of goth fashion that encompasses everything from Tim Burton to MLP Pastel Fantasy is tone deaf. Yet EA is a jock company at heart so failing to understand an alternative culture is pretty on brand.
So programming games and mandatory star wars updates are now a jock thing and not a nerd thing that encourages sitting for more than 10 hours? If EA was a jock company, we'd have more game modes in sports games and not rehashes of the same version. We'd have a lot more world cup tie ins in the sims and a better fitness and sports pack if EA are truly a jock company and less of a "leech off of pop culture until we receive backlash" company?

Love all of this - if they ever do a game pack for bands, I hope they deep dive into subcultures. I’d like some reggae, some ska, heck, I’d suffer through Lawrence Welk, if they would give us a variety.
That's why I love Sims 2. They had the New Wave station. Separate genres, but let's be honest, it's something they play at c virtually every goth night.
As a Gen X Goth Girl........... That was not what I expected, even a little. We used to use thin liquid liner to do intricate makeup, we pancaked our faces, hair was still quite important, and MEN had long straight Peter Steele hair.. There was also a LOT LESS SKIN. Seriously, why are all the new clothes the size of dish cloths? Goths layerrrrrrrrrrrr. We wore more clothes than anyone under the sun. Including the summer 🤣 I voted for it as well, and I am also disappointed. I also voted for the Castles, which I think were fine, but I think they could have finally gave in and given us the spiral stairs so we could use them in the towers, and maybe true bridges, but Im not mad at it.

I agree with your goth kit review. A lot of this feels very nugoth, which i love but i wear such a variety even myself. Also, the looks feel more leaning towards industrial and insta-goth. I really wanted the more classic looks, pr at least variety. And the lack of hair is criminal. Goth hair is such a HUGE part of the looks. Like same fit but different hair van change the sub genre completely. I did like that they gave some non feminine looks. Though i wanted all the looks to be marked for both masc and femm because at least in the goth scene i have been in there is such a eff gendered clothes.

To be fair, I would love more rivethead items. There's a few things from the Get Famous pack that kind of work, but being a subculture without a lot of mainstream influence, it's hard to find stuff that works.
as a goth guy i know goth is essentially a music based subculture and fashion is just a part of it, but i honestly get the feeling that the sims team didnt really do their research on goth fashion. this kinda looks to me like a non-goth trying to describe goth fashion 😭 i didnt really expect much anyways though ngl
I think Sims team is just really afraid of being cancelled because they HAD TO think about Siouxie, theres no way they didnt. BUT we all know how she was and the things she have done soo maybe theyre just scared

Goth Galore feels like remeshes of the grunge stuff we got in Werewolves. Was hoping desperately for the mall goth fashin of the 90s/2000s. Instead we got grunge but make it black
I agree, that many swatches of colors in clothing like the blacks often get washed out and many do NOT MATCH other items of clothing which are black.. they should go over all the swatches of all the clothing and standardize the blacks and or all the colors, so if you have a black top, it will also match a black bottom, if that be pants, shorts or skirts.. I am ok if they want to add other variations of black, but there should always be a standard black or a standard green, or a standard blue.. whatever the basic colors being used, should be standard so they match tops and bottoms.. and even shoes.. they got these boots with buckles on them.. love the style of the boot, but its more gray in color then actually black.. or its highly washed out black. All black shoes and boots should be a standard black color which also matches the tops and bottoms.. I am ok with varying textures for any certain clothing, like leather stuff for example.. but wish all the leather swatches were also more standardized as well.. so one can mix and match various pieces of clothing with others.. and I would also love to see an underwear pack drop as well with bras and undies and guarder belts ect as well as some stockings.. both low and high cut on them so they also match as well. and that they are covered up by even a low cut bottom skirt.. and would love to see more gloves as well, for gowns, which also do not cover the entire hand, but also loop around the middle finger too.. I am not too much into the goth thing, but I do buy all the kits.. I did like some of the pieces in this pack..
as a goth, i’m 50/50 on this pack. Considering it was a kit I wasn’t too surprised, but I’m disappointed they didn’t create any hairs, or SUPER deep eyeliners, it looks a lot like “middle school wannabe gerard way”. I like some of the tops for female sims, especially since the swatches switch.
As a console player this really sucks because we don’t have any access to cc. So it’s really hard for us to express our styles and cultures in the game. I really wish they made a way to give console players access to custom content.

I feel really bad saying that tbh, but when it comes to quality, why expect us to pay for worse?
I get why they dont do high waisted stuff, I've tried enough cc to know it clearly causes issues. textures overlaying weirdly, things dont "tuck in" properly, its probably also why so many tops we get are cropped. for cc its fine, not everything needs to work with everything else, for something we're paying for it probably should. the goth kit is disappointing, but I do like whats in it there, it just needs to have like 3x more stuff.
The way some EA fans are using this as a way to bully goth people was so disgusting and disappointing. The Sims is about making your own story so of course we'd want proper representation and the fact that they're refusing to understand is just sad. But, at least I know cc will always have my back

The castle kit really surprised me. The assets are really, really nice. I expected them to half-ass it, but it's actually really good. I just wish it wasn't so small.
The amount of clothing I ditch even though the swatch overall is cute just because it is SO unflattering and unfitting, what is this weird round stretched-texture thing it does around any Sims belly that isn't flat as a board?! And the low cut trousers changing the hips shape is also frustrating, some items look really nice in the preview and then BAM, weird saggy pampers looking trousers for you, my friend. It's the worst in clothing with specific patterns, as the texture just stretches so weirdly, especially around the stomach and the thighs. As a fellow goth I also agree with everything you said, and I'm really sad they did not bring any hair styles, as that is such an important part of the whole picture.
I'm goth and I actually liked the kit. Yes there's a lot that could've been done but it seems pretty nice for a kit. Although I hate kits Sims seems to love them lolo Kits will always be disappointing honestly but these are pretty good for what they are.
Honestly I would love to see more goth content talking about the goth subcultures and stuff and how to present more goth. I'm limited in my experiment by money, but I do have a decent amount of goth stuff now. I'm slowly building my gothic wardrobe.
As soon as a goth kit was announced, I mentally prepared myself for disappointment... It legit feels like zero effort was put into it. Even if they had just focused on one type of goth aesthetic, it would be nice. But it seems like they didn't hit any of them.

I’m torn about the fashion kit (not the castle kit, it’s fire.) I absolutely love the clothes in this kit, I’d wear everything in the pack, it’s all adorable, but the title is misleading. I adore the castle kit though. For the first time in- ever- I’m excited enough about kits that I’m willing to buy them immediately. This is coming from someone who doesn’t buy packs often, let alone kits (I own a max of 3 kits rn) so for something to excite me this much is a big deal to me.
I paid for goth galore too! I was a goth back when I was young and sexy. Hell I have some eyelner next to my computer hahaha. Honestly I am just happy to have a few new shirts for male sims - they tend to get shafted and not in a good way.
I fooking LOVE the Castle Kit, for me, that crenellation fence was worth the £5 alone cause I'm in my build vanilla first to throw on the gallery then add cc for personal use era and I was sick of using half walls for crenellations xD
Yeah it's kind of impossible to fit even just the most prominent goth styles out there into a single kit, but the quality of the few items in it just isn't great. Still goth in my 30s lol I remember when the Sims 2 first came out, did the same with Saints Row 2, I always made my character goth for some reason. One style I chose for a Sims 2 character actually inspired my goth looks irl at the time when I was still in high school.

I'm a bit disappointed in both kits. First, Goth Kit didn't have much in the hair, accessories and make up, there are also many different types of goth: Neon Goth, Lolita, Traditional etc. They could have done so much more with this. Second, Castle Kit, I was hoping for more off the grid appliances, as well as castle style furniture. I was thinking more of a Medieval kit, than just deco castle.
As someone who is alt and gothic when i can be (i'm autstic and disabled so a lot of my money goes to other things) and i like some of the goth kit..but the shorts that i really like..i have in cc form.. they really should of asked someone who does gothic style cc to of doje the pack

Honestly as an old 80s goth, I actually like this kit. They've obviously gone for a more 90s Hot Topic Goth meets general alt fashion with a dash of Cyber Goth and a tiny option for something akin to Pastel Goth thrown in, but it was what I expected. Of course I would've liked a more Trad Goth and/or Victorian goth aesthetic as well, but technically they've kind of already given us the Victorian inspired looks in Vampires, and as for Trad Goth well that was a far more varied style than what I think the average person realises (compare the style of Bauhaus to Specimen, or Sexgang Children to Play Dead, or Alien Sexfiend to Virgin Prunes, etc etc). The only thing I will take points off for was that they could have at least given us a Trad Goth hairstyle, makeup, and some winkle picker boots to play with, apart from that this will still be one of the few kits I'll actually buy. YMMV.

As a 90's glam goth, I knew they were biting off more than they could chew when they first announced it. Goth has like eight subcultures now, lol. There's no way they were gonna come close to covering even half of it.
I don't have a lot of money so rn I only have the free sims content (minus the desert luxe kit because it doesn't want to download wfkjn) and cats&dogs which I bought on an impulse, but I feel like spending money on things that only give you cas items or build mode items (more so cas items because I'm less likely to download build cc and even if I do it's not always as good as actual game items) is kind of a waste because you can just download some similar cc, so I think I'll only buy goth galore if I have enough money to throw out the trash, but the castle estate kit I do think I'm going to buy because it looks really good and I've yet to see cc that represents it

Considering goth is a music based subculture this should’ve been a stuff pack so we at the very least could get a music station.
They even could have paired it with bands and upgraded into a bands game pack and then represented multiple different music genres

as a goth guy i know goth is essentially a music based subculture and fashion is just a part of it, but i honestly get the feeling that the sims team didnt really do their research on goth fashion. this kinda looks to me like a non-goth trying to describe goth fashion 😭 i didnt really expect much anyways though ngl

I agree, that many swatches of colors in clothing like the blacks often get washed out and many do NOT MATCH other items of clothing which are black.. they should go over all the swatches of all the clothing and standardize the blacks and or all the colors, so if you have a black top, it will also match a black bottom, if that be pants, shorts or skirts.. I am ok if they want to add other variations of black, but there should always be a standard black or a standard green, or a standard blue.. whatever the basic colors being used, should be standard so they match tops and bottoms.. and even shoes.. they got these boots with buckles on them.. love the style of the boot, but its more gray in color then actually black.. or its highly washed out black. All black shoes and boots should be a standard black color which also matches the tops and bottoms.. I am ok with varying textures for any certain clothing, like leather stuff for example.. but wish all the leather swatches were also more standardized as well.. so one can mix and match various pieces of clothing with others.. and I would also love to see an underwear pack drop as well with bras and undies and guarder belts ect as well as some stockings.. both low and high cut on them so they also match as well. and that they are covered up by even a low cut bottom skirt.. and would love to see more gloves as well, for gowns, which also do not cover the entire hand, but also loop around the middle finger too.. I am not too much into the goth thing, but I do buy all the kits.. I did like some of the pieces in this pack..
as a goth, i’m 50/50 on this pack. Considering it was a kit I wasn’t too surprised, but I’m disappointed they didn’t create any hairs, or SUPER deep eyeliners, it looks a lot like “middle school wannabe gerard way”. I like some of the tops for female sims, especially since the swatches switch.
So sad that they didnt add more makeup and fun eyeliners. Also I was kind of expecting a bats nest (Trad goth hair) :(
As a console player this really sucks because we don’t have any access to cc. So it’s really hard for us to express our styles and cultures in the game. I really wish they made a way to give console players access to custom content.

I feel really bad saying that tbh, but when it comes to quality, why expect us to pay for worse?

I get why they dont do high waisted stuff, I've tried enough cc to know it clearly causes issues. textures overlaying weirdly, things dont "tuck in" properly, its probably also why so many tops we get are cropped. for cc its fine, not everything needs to work with everything else, for something we're paying for it probably should. the goth kit is disappointing, but I do like whats in it there, it just needs to have like 3x more stuff.
The way some EA fans are using this as a way to bully goth people was so disgusting and disappointing. The Sims is about making your own story so of course we'd want proper representation and the fact that they're refusing to understand is just sad. But, at least I know cc will always have my back

And under lilsimsie's review some were basically saying that goth fans don't need representation and that they're surprised that so many Sims fans are goth weirdos because of it. Like, what?? It's a life simulation game, of course we're gonna be upset if something sucks or is inaccurate. One told me to keep crying about it so I told them to go keep sucking EA's toes because wow... A lot of these people are such bullies

The castle kit really surprised me. The assets are really, really nice. I expected them to half-ass it, but it's actually really good. I just wish it wasn't so small.
The amount of clothing I ditch even though the swatch overall is cute just because it is SO unflattering and unfitting, what is this weird round stretched-texture thing it does around any Sims belly that isn't flat as a board?! And the low cut trousers changing the hips shape is also frustrating, some items look really nice in the preview and then BAM, weird saggy pampers looking trousers for you, my friend.
It's the worst in clothing with specific patterns, as the texture just stretches so weirdly, especially around the stomach and the thighs.
As a fellow goth I also agree with everything you said, and I'm really sad they did not bring any hair styles, as that is such an important part of the whole picture.

I'm goth and I actually liked the kit. Yes there's a lot that could've been done but it seems pretty nice for a kit. Although I hate kits Sims seems to love them lolo Kits will always be disappointing honestly but these are pretty good for what they are.
Honestly I would love to see more goth content talking about the goth subcultures and stuff and how to present more goth. I'm limited in my experiment by money, but I do have a decent amount of goth stuff now. I'm slowly building my gothic wardrobe.
I'm a huge fan of Felixandre's gothic packs but i must admit, the castle estate kit SLAPS HARD

As soon as a goth kit was announced, I mentally prepared myself for disappointment... It legit feels like zero effort was put into it. Even if they had just focused on one type of goth aesthetic, it would be nice. But it seems like they didn't hit any of them.

I paid for goth galore too! I was a goth back when I was young and sexy. Hell I have some eyelner next to my computer hahaha. Honestly I am just happy to have a few new shirts for male sims - they tend to get shafted and not in a good way.

Yeah it's kind of impossible to fit even just the most prominent goth styles out there into a single kit, but the quality of the few items in it just isn't great. I'm so so so disappointed that there's no hairs, like dude! That's like 50% of the look of most goth styles??? also needs more accessories are you kidding?
Still goth in my 30s lol I remember when the Sims 2 first came out, did the same with Saints Row 2, I always made my character goth for some reason. One style I chose for a Sims 2 character actually inspired my goth looks irl at the time when I was still in high school.

I'm a bit disappointed in both kits.
First, Goth Kit didn't have much in the hair, accessories and make up, there are also many different types of goth: Neon Goth, Lolita, Traditional etc. They could have done so much more with this.
Second, Castle Kit, I was hoping for more off the grid appliances, as well as castle style furniture. I was thinking more of a Medieval kit, than just deco castle.
As someone who is alt and gothic when i can be (i'm autstic and disabled so a lot of my money goes to other things) and i like some of the goth kit..but the shorts that i really like..i have in cc form.. they really should of asked someone who does gothic style cc to of doje the pack
the weathering definitely made the castle kit appealing.

Honestly as an old 80s goth, I actually like this kit. They've obviously gone for a more 90s Hot Topic Goth meets general alt fashion with a dash of Cyber Goth and a tiny option for something akin to Pastel Goth thrown in, but it was what I expected. Of course I would've liked a more Trad Goth and/or Victorian goth aesthetic as well, but technically they've kind of already given us the Victorian inspired looks in Vampires, and as for Trad Goth well that was a far more varied style than what I think the average person realises (compare the style of Bauhaus to Specimen, or Sexgang Children to Play Dead, or Alien Sexfiend to Virgin Prunes, etc etc). The only thing I will take points off for was that they could have at least given us a Trad Goth hairstyle, makeup, and some winkle picker boots to play with, apart from that this will still be one of the few kits I'll actually buy. YMMV.
I came across a download link to it completely by chance (and obviously took the opportunity to get it for free). I am shocked at how little was added and how few options there are in the swatches.

I don't have a lot of money so rn I only have the free sims content (minus the desert luxe kit because it doesn't want to download wfkjn) and cats&dogs which I bought on an impulse, but I feel like spending money on things that only give you cas items or build mode items (more so cas items because I'm less likely to download build cc and even if I do it's not always as good as actual game items) is kind of a waste because you can just download some similar cc, so I think I'll only buy goth galore if I have enough money to throw out the trash, but the castle estate kit I do think I'm going to buy because it looks really good and I've yet to see cc that represents it

irl I can't wear anything high-rise and my mom can only wear low-rise because we both get sick from highrise but the sims 4 shirts are made for a LOT of high-rise pants. If they're not going to make versatile shirts make the pants high-rise.
