ABSOLUTELY ADORE this label... THE CHILLS (One of my all-time favorite bands), THE CLEAN, STRAITJACKET FITS, TALL DWARVES, THE BATS, and ABLE TASMANS (I'm STILL looking for a vinyl copy of the absolutely brilliant "STORE IN A COOL PLACE" album) were my favorites. LONG LIVE FLYING NUN!!!! 🏆❤🏆😎🏆❤🏆
A lot of good music from Dunedin New Zealand in the 1980's and the first half of the 1990s. But unfortunately it's not very well known around the world.
Shame that Look Blue Go Purple only get a few frames in a window and the former (very good) drummer a few words as an administrator. The 3Ds section doesn't expose the wonderful voice of the bass player and Roy (Division) Montgomery doesn't get much of a look-in. It is still fantastic to hear "Point that thing somewhere else" which puts all the griping in perspective. Sadly Marin Phillips has now left us too. RIP and thanks.
Malkmus kind of downplays the reach of the Flying Nun bands in the U.S. indie world. In the late eighties, they seemed to be quite well known and played a lot on college radio. They were as popular as most American bands at that time.
The Flying Nun sound seems to have mostly disappeared with their 90s output. Too much corporate grunge. Even my beloved JPS Experience got boring, losing all their beautiful quirks.
