Only these five singers gave unique interpretations which imbued a menacing viciousness within the character that would ice the blood of anyone who would be foolhardy enough to attempt to get in their way.

Watching this is like seeing the 1976 Muti-led studio recording brought to life! I like the firmness, evenness, and incisiveness of Cossotto's voice and think it strange that she's so rarely mentioned in discussions of great mezzos. And overall, I do prefer a mezzo Lady Macbeth to a soprano.

Acting - high camp
I saw her as Azucena in Trovatore with the Australian Opera and she was the same, wonderful voice and over the top acting.
I LOVE this! What a mezzo-soprano, -what a register, and what a technique! And it sounds and looks so effortless, yet knowing it's real hard work. Great!

Ma quale soprano" falcon"...tu non sai di che parli. La Cossotto era un mezzosoprano che ha tentato questa Lady Macbeth con un risultato terribile e calante oltre che sforzata e senza alcuna espressione (o forte o piano). Muti poteva scegliere su un'ampia rosa di cantanti e allora ce n'erano parecchie. E la Cossotto non ha mai alternato nulla, solo in disco ha cantato qualche cosa da soprano e con discutibili esiti.
People tend to criticize Cossotto's Lady Macbeth, calling her vocal performance forced, heavy, "ungraceful"... not just chewing the scenery dramatically, but vocally as well. But for me, it is the most thrilling interpretation I have ever heard.
Excellent!!!! finally I find the Lady sung by a mezzo soprano - the role is undoubtedly for a mezzo - sopranos, who usually sing it don't have sufficiently dark, impressive voices!
Cossotto is an example of voice for all mezzos, her technique is perfect and singing at 71 is a sign of it :)

The public of opera is full of jealous, ignorant, mean. Do not be offended by this kind of people, intolerant about the success and talent of others. Let these people go sighing on bad singers today. And enjoy to be one with a beautiful ear :)

a me pare in playback...o il canto non è in sintonia? con il labiale la Conoscevo bene e dal vivo non aveva questo viso rilassato;
sembrava una vera pazza....detto questo tutto fuorché ...scontata.
Lo strumento è di lusso e per lei una tessitura comoda....per chi non conoscesse l'opera questo resta un ottimo approccio.... rip.....sempre grato alla sua arte.

OMG! It's a miracle, Cossotto hit the high notes, finally I can hear her singing well. Oh, wait a minute, it's a studio record and she's lip-synching. LOL
Also, Cossotto is a beautiful woman.

album was recorded in 1976, Riccardo Muti
conducting. Personally, I like her performance

Non mi piace. La voce suona troppo lirica e poco aggressiva.
La Obraztsova non era calante x niente, la sua voce era come una lama, riempiva i cuori e gli spazi dove cantava erano inondati da quella voce immensa!!!!!! Era una forza della natura, forse uno dei mezzosoprani più completi mai esistiti... senza scordare che non aveva alcun problema a reggere parti sopranili.... C'è tanta ignoranza in chi commenta questi video a volte.... La Cossotto grande cantante, ma non era adatta a questo ruolo...

Il ruolo di Lady Macbeth necessita assolutamente di una struttura vocale ben definita: io possiedo il Macbeth diretto da Riccardo Muti: sono rimasto davvero molto deluso dopo averlo acquistato!...
Invece, c'è un'altra verità: ora mi sento in dovere di cercare se da qualche parte esiste un Macbeth con la grandissima Elena... Magari!...
Mi scusi se sono apparso così a sorpresa, ma ho trovato per caso solo ora questo documento su RUclips!

Ella solamente estaba cantando el Aria, y Cossotto tenía una voz inmensa. Eran voces para cosas distintas.

Che bisogna ci sia di confrontare artiste distanti e menomale, differenti per Carisma e esprimersi con un giudizio "piccato"?...fatevi curare da uno buono...perché qui stimo siamo di fronte a una ripresa televisiva , quindi in play back...che falsa...il Ruolo....in teatro la sua voce era anche meglio... ecc ecc( qui si sente poi lo studio che fece della Parte ,con Gina Cigna...che mi raccontava non avesse avuto modo di doverla Correggere su alcune intemperanze che fanno di un vero artista un :..Unicum...)...e su quello stile si espresse e indirizzò pure per la Dimitrova ...Poi.

She was 41 when she recorded this complete performance with Muti and Milnes. She's lipsyncing on Italian TV probably to publicize the recording so probably with a year or two of the recording.
Now that was really good....I think Maria Callas would have liked!
