I have been using Linux now for more years than I can remeber and I have been used for many of those years to the System V init daemon and scripts. For the last couple of years Ubuntu have been converting their services to use Upstart. With this process configuartion files are created in the /etc/init directory and these file maintain if you like, the configuation of the service start up through "start on" and "stop on" stanzas. We no longer require the sym-links in the rc directories to control auto start of a service. We also can leave chkconfig, insserv and service behind and in this video we will show you how it all come together.
I tried this for a service called virtualbox-guest-util but I got this message in console
status: Unable to connect to Upstart: Failed to connect to socket /com/ubuntu/upstart: Connection refused
Hi Nice Video ! What if i delete the upstart script ? Will the service still run ?
Thank you !
great video, tnx :)
