I really enjoyed your review of the Derwent SuperPoint Manual Sharpener and went and bought one, and I am more than pleased. Thank you for the recommendation.
I just found you while browsing tutorials. I really get a lot out of your videos. You are honest, demonstrate the "how to" thoroughly and repeat important factors. Your work is beautiful.....show us more! I am exploring different media and supplies and you have helped my future selections. I am so happy that I found you and can't wait to watch more of your videos!
I just received my pencil sharpener this weekend. I agree, this is the best. The sharp point allows you to lay down color lightly in the tooth without crushing the tooth thus allowing more layering. I put my others away in the closet.
The Kum Extra Long Point does not give two lengths. The first hole trims back the wood and the second sharpens the exposed lead. There are also two sharpeners on the sides for leads in clutch pencils. There are also two spare blades. I know this because I've just recently ordered one.
I have one, love it despite it chewing the barrel of the pencil. It works very well for me. I do find the point tips sometime break when I first use them. Maybe I’m putting too much pressure on the tip. I still like the sharpener
My favorite sharpener is classroom friendly supplies they have replaceable blades, trays, instead of having to buy a whole new sharpener and they have a sharpener that is specifically for LARGER pencils
Hi, I see this video is a little over a year old now. Is your Dewent Manual Sharpener still working for you? I ask because in the reviews on Amazon some people said it stopped working after a couple of weeks to four months in. I was going to buy one but now I'm not sure.
Hi Diane, I use it all the time and it works as good as it did on day one! I would take a chance as I know many other artists in my group that have it and love it plus, Derwent is a reputable company... if you have a problem with it I am sure they would make it right....I have heard of only one person who had a problem with the sharpener and Derwent sent them a new one..
I really enjoyed this review. I watched it after the UPS guy delivered my Derwent Super Point Manual sharpener, and, it didn't seem to work. I tried many different pencils, configurations etc...nothing worked, and I was hoping you might have some helpful hints. I asked my mechanically apt husband, who took it apart, and discovered there was a piece of graphite lodged down at the end of the barrel. Have you noticed that at all? If you have, it would be a really good addition to this review: how to fix a jam.
My apologies! I just read this now... Great idea! When I update this video in the future, I will include how to take apart.. Hope you are still enjoying it. Its still my favorite!
I had the same problem - twist the knob the handle is attached to, pull the sharpening mechanism out and make sure there is nothing wedged in the blades. I found a length of pencil lead stuck in the sharpener. Hope this helps - this is a great sharpener!
I commented on your other post...You can see in the video the way it sharpens so I would reach out to Derwent. I would like to think they will stand by their product. It works beautifully for me and everyone I know who has one so it could be defective..
I just received my Derwent Superpoint sharpener and it is terrible! I had a Carl Angel 5 and it had been great, but it’s relatively heavy, so I bought an M + R crank sharpener and it’s good but feels a bit “grindy” ( if that’s a word! LOL). It gives a good point but not super long, so when I saw your review I thought, wow, this seems perfect! I’m so disappointed, the Derwent Superpoint sharpener breaks my Prismas! I know Prismas have a reputation for breakage but I haven’t experienced it at all....until I tried the Derwent Superpoint sharpener! I’ve cleaned the sharpener, I’ve tried my Prismas in the other sharpeners I have and then tried them in the Derwent again...breaks every time! I’m in Australia and I got the sharpener from the UK, it costs way too much for postage to return it, otherwise I would send it back! It is possible I just got a bad sharpener, but like I said, I am very disappointed.
Sorry to hear that! Either the Prisma cores are extremely off center or the sharpener has a defect. I have been using mine almost 2 years and its a sharp and as efficient as ever. I also know many artists in my group who use it and love it so maybe email them and tell them your problem. You can see in the video the sharpening in action! Maybe they will send you a new one or perhaps a mailing label for free postage to send it back?? Everything I review is because I use and love the item enough to give it a review so I'm so sorry to hear you have a negative experience. Derwent is a good company, I would e-mail them and see if they would help you out. It's worth a shot!
Thanks for the reply, I will email them and see what they say. It certainly seems like a great sharpener! Will let you know when and if I get a reply. Thanks again.
Lindy Clarkson definitely let me know how they respond to you. I don't get paid from them. I am not a representative for them I just like the products and want to review all different kinds of colored pencil products.. So all of my reviews are truly my opinion I am never paid.. I have been pushing this sharpener for a very long time and I've known Derwent to be a real reputable company so definitely keep me posted on your outcome!
JVArt resources I just heard back from Derwent and they are going to replace the sharpener, though they are not in stock right now. I’m very happy with this response and hopeful that the new sharpener will work well. I will let you know when I get it.
Lindy Clarkson that's wonderful! I knew that would make it right.. I personally know so many people that purchased it and love it so I knew it had to be just a faulty sharpener! I'm glad they're going to take care of it! Thanks for letting me know.
it took a month to get and it doesn't sharpen I cleaned it and made sure there was no broken lead even used a pip clear to make make sure of no stuck lead any ideas it lasted 2 pencils, then worthless and it leave grease residue on there pencils.
Janet Shaffer its easy to take out! Once you remove the blade assembly you can bang it on a hard surface and if it still won’t come out I use an old embossing tool to help poke it out.. :)
Just purchased this yesterday and I love it already👍🏻🇦🇺
You have a point there they are super to use.
I bought this on your say so, great product . Thank you.

Thank you that’s very kind of you. I’ve taken a break from worrying for a little while but I hope to start producing some videos in the future
Joyce Wickman Thank you for your kind words.
Love your videos...Thanks for taking the time to make them!
I am just watching your hands and liking 😊.

HA! I keep my oldies in a large jar! Funny how we can get excied over a sharpener but I really love mine! :)

Thank you! Love the Derwent!
I love my Derwent sharpener!!
thanks Judith
Do you know what the difference is between this and the mini version?
My favorite sharpener is classroom friendly supplies they have replaceable blades, trays, instead of having to buy a whole new sharpener and they have a sharpener that is specifically for LARGER pencils
Does it bite the barrel of the pencil? I had one that really scarred up the middle where it was help in place.

Weditt's Playthings Thanks for the tip!
My Derwent did not hold up. I tried over and over to get it back to work but failed. It wasn’t clogged it was mechanical. 😵💫
Oh, by the way, I did like your review....that’s why I bought the sharpener! LOL
Thank you Lindy!

My Derwent manual sharpener currently has a pencil point stuck in the cutting blades🤪🤪🤪

AFMAT is the best
Purchased bases on your recommendation..did not come with clams and does not work. Pure trash.
