Artari I also started recently to collect old books, and bought one from 1738. But sadly the former owner didn't take care of the leather well, and I am unsure wich leather care products I should use. Do you may have a idea?
I was going thru a tub of pictures I inherited from my Granny. Along with 100's of photos sum dating back to 1903 (some have dates and some have names on the back, most have no info) maybe before 1903? Some have been eaten up by critters. Pretty sure I have every decade and every war photographed. Anyways, I came across our family Bible, with births and deaths starting around 1850!! It's pages are all there, I hope. And 3 Cora Harris books, I can't even open w/o damaging more
I think book, art, and antique repair and restoration is still a job you can get into. I reckon a lot of collectors, museums, and libraries are in need of skilled restoration people.
@@tybronx2446 yes.. but most of them are in Europe and maybe America.. far faar out of my reach from here in India.. and the book collectors here in India are so minute in number that no one has set-up a dedicated restoration and repair business here..
@@abbashaidari8313 I think the fact that there aren't that many people who do restoration in your country means the museums have more openings for the job? You could just check, what do you have to lose?
I know you posted this quite some time ago. You can date it by what kind of photo it is (tin type, Polaroid, etc.) and by the clothing people are wearing. Clothes can take some time to learn.
@@xTashleyx thanks. I long ago gave up on this daunting task when i realized i probably have every make and model of photo types. From rusted tin to not so rusted tin, to cardboard to plastic? But I did meet my great grandfather, a WW2 hero, so the ride thru time thru Granny's photos, was beyond imaginable. Tangible photos will be sadly missed 100 yrs from now
I have repaired newer books and even that was really rewarding and relaxing.
Thanks for watching. I have never done any repairs that are that extensive. But is it amazing to see their skill.

Thank you, Lena. Some of the methods might be a bit out of date by now, but it is nice to see these treasures restored.
