It's a masterpiece isn't it? ❤🔥I remember when a top radio station in Israel played a "Top 100 songs of the 1990's" countdown, right before the new millennium hit , and "One" by U2 was voted #1🥇 This duet came out in 2006 and was nominated for a Grammy. MJB has collaborated with quite a few artists, including - George Michael, Lauryn Hill and Wyclef Jean. More masterpiece recommendations to come.😉
Jack The Lead Singer of U2 Bono had Written this in 1991 from their seventh studio album Achtung Baby And it became another popular hit for u2 in 1992 and in 2005 Mary j blige wanted to record the popular song for her seventh studio album the breakthrough released in late 2005
U2 originally released this song in 1992. It’s off u2’s Achtung Baby album ( amazing album) think this version came out around 2008 Amazing song , the U2 version from 92 is a lot darker. The song is a break up song , u2 we’re on the verge of splitting in 91 when this song got wrote. It’s also a conversation between a father and son . The son is telling his father he has aids . It was originally released as a charity record for world aids day Mary covered the song but got U2 to do it with her which is a nice touch . Sometimes cover versions can be tacky but if you cover a song and sing it with the artist that released it then I think you’re onto a winner Mary adds something new to the song and it’s a great version but the u2 version hits home a lot more lyrically . Mary’s version sort of gives hope and happiness the u2 version is dark. Check out the u2 version 👍
Yes I’m surprised because I’m a HUGE MJB fan!!! Who’s album was it on? I’m guessing U2. Know them and like them but not on any of my playlists so kinda off my radar.
It might seem far-fetched on the surface, but there are so many instances of Black female singers on rock classics back in the day. Plus rock originated as "rock and roll" in the late 1940s and early 1950s, and to go even further, drew directly from blues and R&B. So...not far-fetched at all lol. "One" is a U2 original; this is a remake as a duet with Mary. The song was a major commercial success over in Europe, so that might be why you've never heard it.
also, U2 have a bit of a history collaborating with Black performers. Recordings with BB King, Wyclef, Prince. Kendrick Lamar. Live Performances with Jay Z. Took Public Enemy on tour when music genres were still segregated. Specifically Black Females: New Voices of Freedom was a church choir who sent U2 a gospel cover of I Still Haven't Found What Im Looking For. U2 ended up recording this version with the choir, which is predominantly black female, and a female solo. They also performed with the choir in concert. Recorded with Alicia Keys. They've performed with Beyonce. And of course Mary.

@Gregory Tyska " Was at the both the Slane Castle shows and I've been to countless U2 concerts over the Decades and the Slane Shows are right up there or maybe even the best ones I've ever witnessed just an incredible Live Band to watch they have so much Dedication and Passion but most of all the Connection between the four members and the timing which they all have when delivering a song live to they're Audience is the best I've ever seen"
