Never heard of any of these Arcade titles except one "Q-Bert" At our Arcade it was a Pinball Arcade & there 1st Arcade was Q-Bert. i just so happen to be there when they installed it & the delivery guy game me 5 quarters & let me be the 1st to play this game! i just excelled at this game & later on that week i was the top score with my initials. As a kid i use to get teased Ernie & Bert from Sesame Street, but having my name at #1at our local Arcade made it all stop & i became Ernie & Q-Bert. So i will always love this game!

Completely agree about Contra, I greatly prefer the NES version. As a general rule I prefer NES ports to their original arcade counterparts, the controls are tighter and the music is better.
I can’t believe you hate QBert! I actually somehow never played it as a kid, but I tried it for the first time at an arcade by me about 3 years ago and immediately fell in love with it.

Q*bert is perhaps the first video game I played. I don't really remember, but I do recall my Mom would have me sat on her lap while playing games at the arcade and this was her favorite. Occasionally she'd let me play (or try to play the attract screen because I was 2 and stupid, I'm sure a few times it was for reals though.) That said, I never really liked this game, but it does hold a soft spot in my memory.

I played the hell out of Jail Break. Why? Because when I was in college we had extremely limited access to video games. For one semester, Jail Break was the only arcade game could play. This is a phenomenon kids today can’t understand. You might only have access to one arcade machine. You might only have two cartridges for your console. So that’s what you played. Didn’t matter if the game sucked. And boy did Jail Break suck. Ridiculously hard. Your only hope of advancing far was memorizing when and where every enemy appeared. And playing perfectly. But at least it had copyright-infringing “Batman” and pixilated boobies to find.

Q*Bert is ICONIC! What are you talking about?! And when Konami made Super Cobra, I'm pretty sure they weren't sitting there trying to figure out the velocity of the helicopter. They were just trying to make a fun game that was the spiritual successor to Scramble. I have both Scramble and Super Cobra on my PS4 from the Arcade Archive. I guess when I play a game I don't sit there and nit-pick something like that. If a game has bad graphics, bad music and sound, bad controls, and bad mechanics, THEN I get pissed at the game.

I like several of the games on this list, but the one that surprises me the most is Contra. It actually, by the way, does mention on the control panel that you get a max of 3 continues, which may or may not be true of Haunted Castle, which I feel belongs on this list more than Contra. Not only is Haunted Castle far more sluggish than pretty much every other Castlevania game out there, but it has something worse than the 3 continues rule. You can insert 4 coins and quadruple the health you get with 1 coin, but doing that counts as your 3 continues, so while the upside is that you have less to worry about in terms of dying and having to go back to a checkpoint, the downside is that one death on 4 coins results in a game over. And falling to your death during a 4 coins life is worse than anything Contra throws at you.

9:53 Don't you watch Southpark? That's clearly Batdad! Randy must have beaten him so hard he got sent back in time to 1991.
Come on Fort I thought you knew your stuff.
The problem you have with the Qbert controls is valid if you don't have a propper emulated version.
Most arcade games had the standard 4 directions Stick that goes up, left, right and down. Qbert was different from that because the stick was placed to achieve the directions you mentioned. up left, down left, down right and up right. Playing the game on mame or any of the homeports doesn't really do it justice.
There are classic arcade toys from 2016 that have the stick set to the proper directions I think.
I don't think Q*bert is a masterpiece but it is nowhere near the bottom when it comes to 8bit arcade games.
You sure got alot of nerve to trashtalk Konami so much. If they were not busy making pachinco games they would be very upset now!
